Good stuff! I really like the Manny, Bell, Thome comparison to Moustakas, Hosmer, Myers. I also like the Glavine/Avery comparison to Lamb/Monty. Could KC be so lucky as to have both those comps come true?

I'm really interested to see who the mystery team will be.
My first thought was the late '80s early 90's Yankees, but they only had 4 losing seasons and then won their first playoff series after 2 (strike shortened) seasons.
My next thought was those early 70's Royals, but they were much better than I thought(No Royal team won fewer than 75 games for nearly 25 years)
So I'm stumped, and intrigued. Definitely looking forward to the next article.

Best thing about Rany's site is the amazing way he makes Royals topics relevant and interesting to any MLB fan. Keep up the great work.

The Cardinals...they lost virtually every year from '88 until LaRussa arrived in '95

Post-Tom Kelly Twins. Losing seasons from 1994-2000. They came out of nowhere in 2001 and 2002 with a roster almost entirely borne from the minor leagues (though they acquired Eric Milton and Christian Guzman as prospects through the Chuck Knoblauch trade). I don't think they acquired a veteran of any kind until the trading deadline in 2001 when they traded Matt Lawton for Rick Reed (*shudder*).

Who did the Angles win with in 2005 ? Pitching staff was homegrown. Garret Anderson was homegrown. I'll have to check that lineup.

Scott Kazmir did technically come from the Rays' farm system. But he was acquired (actually, STOLEN) from the Mets for Victor Zambrano, which also brought Justin Huber to the Royals. I remember a hilarious blog post from the Rob & Rany days that tries to recreate what that phone conversation with Allard Baird and the other GM must have been like. Ah, Huber. Another prospect in ruins.

Another fun column. Thanks.

Can we quickly quickly quickly trade Kendall to Houston and Betemit to Cleveland before each fills its hole? Just hoping.

I agree with Benjamin. I think it's the Twins.

Then throw in McFarland too at some point.
