I would not have thought they'd call up Duffy quite yet, but I also wouldn't have thought they'd lose Chen and Davies in a 2-week span, either. It's certainly exciting, but as the problem with the team winning more right now is actually the offense, I'd think the Royals should be realistic on Duffy's immediate impact -- he's not going to "save the season" or anything.

Rany, chill with the Hosmer-Pujols comparison. Dude is hitting .241. he doesnt need to sign a 10 year contract right now, or any time soon for that matter (direct reference to idiot smellinger), he just needs to play for awhile without someone writing a baseless article about his future every 7 at bats.

There's a doomsday feel to the farm system - it's this group then nothing? I'm hoping that they continue to build the farm system forever - continually restocking. Yes, I realize that they won't always have high picks, but a farm system is not only made up of first round picks.

In the Wil Myers section, the last sentence has what I think is a typo. If I'm following your train of thought, the last sentence should say "a mid-2012 promotion" rather than "a mid-2011 promotion."

Nice article. As far as the battery, there is nothing standing between Salvador Perez and the Royals. The two AAA catchers are both hitting well below .200. That's pretty sad. Sal is only hitting .255, granted, but I think that given his catching prowess, that's good enough.

Perez should be sent to AAA in July in order to get half a season in Omaha. Then I would invite him to camp next year and see what he looks like, and if it looks good enough, put him on the field at Kauffman on Opening Day.

I wouldn't go that far. Orduzzi is still 1-2 years away, as Rany said. And then there are guys like Chester Cuthbert, Jason Adam, and the guy we pick this year in what (I hear) is a good draft. And like Rany said, Rey Navarro or David Lough are suddenly looking better than expected. Like he said, the "leftovers" after the 2011 promotions should still be a Top 10 farm system.

I don't think the point is to go all in for this year. I think the main point is that many prospects will need an adjustment period to get good. There will be ups and downs as they adjust to the majors and as the majors adjusts to them.

I think calling the ones up now that are ready moves up that adjustment period and makes it more likely that the Royals can compete next year. For this year, I would be thrilled if they make a run at .500.

Players don’t have breakout seasons and then get even better the next season, unless their name is Jose Bautista.

And even then, it's only a 50/50 shot. :)

Now all the Royals need to do is re-sign Jason Kendall to a multi-year deal before he hits free agency, to secure the catcher's position for the Royals' 2012 title run.

Just kidding...

What free agent starters would make sense for the Royals to target this offseason?

Pretty stacked system when you can get thru all that and barely make mention of Lorenzo Cain. Gotta think we'll see him after the trade deadline, at the latest. I would think right now that Dayton would like to take advantage of Melky's start (hopefully he sustains it) and flip him at the deadline, then bring up Cain.

I wonder what the potential for Giovatelli is? He seems to be putting up reasonable numbers at AAA. Would he be better at 2nd base than what we have currently?
