Pimply, Moore-loving turncoat.

Another nice post, Rany. I have enjoyed the analysis in this series, and I am looking forward to the last two pieces. Myers feels like a potential superstar to me.

Yep, good stuff. Let's just pray that when all this talent reaches the bigs GMDM knows what to do with it.

Was wondering what current major leaguer Rany would compare Meyers to. I know the Royals want to and have said Mauer, but that is pretty steep comparison. If I had to guess, maybe Jasson Heyward. Especially if he does move out to the RF.
(where does that leave Eibner?)

Well Eibner is probably going to start somewhere below High A, at least I would think. And he's also a center fielder all the way, I think. I'm no expert, but the little that I've seen him play on TV, he has the athleticism and okay instincts to play center field well. But this is all assuming Eibner hits in professional baseball. Even then, Rany is right about the outfielders in the system. Just think about our best outfielders close to major league ready. David Lough? There's nobody right now that projects as a starter. We seem to have lots of 4th outfielders.

Yet with DeJesus, Gordon and Mitch Meier, there are a few early-to-mid career outfielders on the big league club. It seems to me a good catcher could help the club more than an outfielder. Though both are needed.

If you're looking for Rany's comp for Myers, BBWB, it's pretty clear from the article: Jorge Posada.

Gordon isn't on the big league club, of course, but it sure seems like he should be, doesn't it? Anyway, he has to count somewhere as an outfielder.

I agree Nathan. He certainly should be on the big league club, so it's perhaps easy to forget he isn't. Everyone seems to be saying "I told you so" on Gordon because he's slumping and he strikes out a lot. Nobody seems to be too worried about David Wright or Mark Reynolds though. Granted, they've proven themselves, but it means that strikeouts don't necessarily mean he's no good. Especially, when there are plenty of walks and power to go with it. Gordon should be given extended playing time in KC now. I fear the hole in his swing is necessary and fixing it would ultimately lead to a higher average, but much less oomph. And last time I checked, singles hitting outfielders were not too valuable.

I would hope if Myers is the Royals greatest prospect, he would be better than a Posada. Not taking anything away from Posada, but he's not a HoFer and the only way he did make it is because he's a Yankee. I think that Moustakas and Hosmer have a legitimate potential and Myers being better than them,hmmm...

You would hope he'd be better than Posada? Hell, I'd be happy with a catcher who's had the career Posada's had! Career 162 game average of .277, 25 homers, 97 rbi's. That's impressive for a catcher.

There has been a lot of good news from our entire minor league system this year with prospects performing beyond expectations. Unfortunately, I can't look at it with anything other than a "I'll believe it when I see it" type of mindset. I have seen so many highly touted prospects or sure things end up not turning out at the major league level that it is hard for me to get excited until I see them in KC.

With that said, I must say my interest is at a higher level than it has been in a long time in regards to the minor leagues for this organization.

Only time will tell and I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Rany- Yet another substance lacking fluff piece. Your verbose, propagandist writings are enough to make a person vomit.

Great job Rany, its always nice to learn a little about our farm system.

I don't care what position Wil Meyer plays for us...just as long as he IS playing for us! Can you imagine an outfield with him and Gordon at the corners driving in runs around Butler, Moustakas, and Hosmer!

An infield with Moustakas, Hosmer, Colon, and Meyer. What I want to know about his catching is how does he do calling games and handling a pitching staff? That is make or break for his position, not his ability to block balls in the dirt.

"Substance lacking"? Every comment you've ever left lacks any substance! At least we learn something from Rany's writings, you wannabe.

I still would like to know, with all the pitching and other prospects, who we will have playing second base and the outfield positions? Those are the two big areas where we lack top end prospects.

The boys in blue really need Myers to make it, and hit, as another RH batter with Billy Butler... let's face it, all the rest of the the decent prospects are LH: Gorden, Kaaihue, Moustakas, Hosmer, Lough, and if DDJ, Getz, and Mitch Maier hang around it's even worse. Callaspo as a switch hitter remains very valuable in a lineup. A Christian Colon at SS would be nice too!

Great stuff Rany.

It is exciting to talk about the position players. I am excited to think about Myers, Mous, Hosmer, Colon, Gordon, Kila, Butler, Robinson and maybe Aviles in the lineup.

What I think is even more exciting is the pitching which is on the way. The minors are truly stacked right now.

Pitching truly is the currency of baseball.

The future looks bright as there are already have three huge building blocks in Greinke, Butler and Soria.

And to the commenter earlier who is hoping for more than just Posada returns on Myers. It would be great to get that and it is not necessarily a bad idea to think that way, but perspective is necessary.

There can't be HOFers at all positions. The Royals have had one HOF player in their history, and if memory serves me correctly the teams that HOF player played on were pretty fun teams to watch.

Another point I would like to make to illustrate that the Royals are in a much better place is that no one has brought up how much payroll comes off the big league roster this year.

I know, I know, I just broke that trend, but in most years past at this time we are looking at who might be free agents and who might be affordable. It was the only chance at hope we had. This time around we are not even thinking that way. In fact, I hope they sign no free agents, unless it is a huge impact player.

I would make the argument that one impact signing would make the Royals into playoff hopefuls. It will be tempting to try. The better long term strategy would be to not be tempted and to put even more money into the system and international players.

Sweet! Can we get an update on Brian Anderson? He may be 28, but I'm predicting the next Jamie Moyer here.

And while you are at it, maybe a paragraph on TPJ? He was dominating AA but has been rocked in AAA Fresno (including 3 more ER today).

I find it hard to let go.

Rany, I remember the golden age of blogs, when you could actually have a decent conversation with anonymous comments, principally because only relatively with-it people had noticed the internet yet. The sort of person who gets a kick out of pointless namecalling was then more likely to take up graffiti than blogging.

Alas, this is a new age. I would gladly police the comments of this blog, if you like, and I'll bet a few others here would volunteer, too. Somebody should be weeding out this anonymous filth, and none of us want you to waste your writing time on it.

funny how 1 (maybe 2 people) think blogging about our up-and-coming prospects is somehow a 'sell-out' since DM drafted them. DM has made some poor FA decisions but thinking that he must go (and thus writing about the apparent bright future is being a 'traitor') is moronic.
