As a Royals fan living in San Antonio, the parallels to the 2013 and then 2014 Spurs are stark. The Spurs were as close to a title as it is possible to be in basketball in 2013 - up five with 30 seconds left, if I recall correctly, before a stunning series of events took the title away. I guess the Royals could have been a bit closer to the title - put the winning run on second with Alex on third.

Both teams showed an insane focus from the opening moments of the next season, and approached Platonic ideals for teams in sports. I don't know if there will be three more wins or not - gosh, I hope so. I remember thinking as Manu dunked on the Heat in game 5 that game had reached the absolute peak of being a sports fan. Redemption, valedictory, community, blah blah blah.

And yet here we are, some 16 months later, with a series that could even top that for me. If I am dreaming, don't wake me up for another few games!

Hey Rany! We're World Series Champions now! We did it! I tuned into your blog (as you are my soothsayer and revelator on all things Royal - and was completely not surprised that you hadn't posted anything, because we are as speechless as you.

Thank you for every word you've written and will continue to write (RIP Grantland)...my first question, the day after, is how do we build a team to repeat next season - or do you believe that another 30 year drought is in store for us?

I am so incredibly happy - I have been with your blog for years, tearing our hair out together & wanting to quit loving, anguishing over trades and numbers, and being on this journey with you - and I am as proud of you, as I am of our boys.

We did it! The Royals Win! Huzzaaaaaaaahhhhh!!!!

I don't know who I am happier for myself or for you. If this is the end of RotR then we need one last championship column to put in the bank.

Still reeling, Rany. I've been there as a kid from Freddie Patek crying in the dugout after Chambliss' HR to Sabes and Brett hugging in '85. This is the most unexpected run I've witnessed as a fan - and yet so very fitting. All of those No. 1 picks coming through after so much adversity -- Gordon, Moustakas, Hosmer, Hochevar, and even Colon with a title on the line. There's so many storylines it's like a Hallmark movie -- Wade Davis villified as a starter and turning into a cyborg, Escobar and Cain coming to town for Grienke and having to prove themselves, Rios in his first post season after 12 years. The whole Volquez situation. And the way the team was put together is a model of organizational planning and thrift. I honestly didn't think Dayton had it in him. I'm beginning to wonder if there's more to come. I'm going to enjoy this ride while they've got the core together for another 2-3 years. Just as I've enjoyed the ride following your writing here (and beyond). I'll keep looking for you wherever you turn up.

Welcome to heaven Rany!

In your next blog I would like to see the answer to half of your statement (paraphrased) that went like this:

"I have seen better teams, and I have seen more resilient teams, but I have never seen a team that was both better and more resilient"

Any of us can count BETTER teams, but what team/teams do you feel have been more resilient?
