Excellent post Rany. I too am surprised that Crow seems to have made the team. I guess we'll have to trust the baseball "men" on this one. Looking forward to opening day and whatever you have planned special for Tuesday, any hints?

Great Post, Rany
You never fail to get me giddy before the start of the season each year.

Rany-

I agree with you on the startng five. While none are stellar they are far better than what has been proposed as a staff in recent years. The line where there are six No. 5's is a good line.

We need to have results before we praise Moore, but as good as some of the starters look to be, I think his strategy of drafting bullpen guys is working out pretty well. This bullpen looks like it sets up well.

I am forever optimistic, but I think they can win 80 this year. That may be stretching it, but I am pretty sure they won't lose 100.

I'm not too worried about the current makeup of the team. I'm more excited about what it will look like come August and September, when Moose and some others will most likely be up. Will Montgomery or Lamb pitch well enough to get a September audition? What about Duffy? Hosmer?

Should be an exciting year!

I had to take a pepcid after reading Luis Mendoza's name. I threw up a little in my mouth. Slash numbers against Luis last year: .455/.520/1.136. Bigger sample size? Over 4 years hitters have a .936 OPS against him. There are only 3 hitters who will be in the AL this year who have had a higher OPS over the last 4 years. This makes every hitter who faces Mendoza the 4th best hitter in the league! IF they bring him back I will implode. (and predictably, so will he)

Trades like DDJ for Mazzaro is why so many of us doubt GMDM's ability to lead us to the promise land.

I guess you just have to keep looking at the 2010 Giants and realize that even the most screwed up GM can get you there.

But, what the hey, I'll be at Royals Stadium on Opening Day.

..and we've signed a 35-year-old catcher from Texas. So, May may be bye bye.

In respect to Feliz, the Rangers didn't have another closer like we do with Soria, and even Tejada, and Collins.

I don't mind Crow on the opening day bullpen. He could go from Pen to Rotation fine like Jenrry Mejia, and probably Feliz in the future.

The only concern is service time, like Moose. I think Aaron will be great in the MLB and we might regret it in 2016. With that said, remember he was drafted as a 'ready to MLB' player, as Nats had drafted him and failed to sign him a year earlier. When we drafted him we expected him to make the team this year. Possibly, the front office minds werent changed at all by his control problems last year.

This starting 5 could easily be a poor-man's 2008 Twins staff. None of those guys were great, but they were all averageish. This team won't win 88 games like that Twins team, but that starting 5 is good enough that a surprising offense and good bullpen will make this team better than most think.

Personally I would have setup the rotation to be Francis, Hoch, Chen, Davies Mazzarro.
Crow, will eventually replace Hoch in the Rotation, and Hoch will go to the bullpen next year IMO. Crow really has it, and McClure will get the best out of him on a daily basis.
Eventually the Rotation will be Montgomery, Crow, Lamb, Odorizzi and Melville.

"Opening Day is just four days away, and as much as we’d all just like to skip ahead to the five straight AL Central titles that we’ve all been promised, "

Please...provide links to where anyone in the Royals organization has publicly 'promised' five straight AL Central titles.

Or is this just more of your mindless hyperbole that you are so adept at posting?

Oh...and Sweeney doesn't deserve anything. His contract crippled the Royals for 5 years while he preached and took his checks to the bank.

...and hit .284/.353/.476 while doing it. He was hurt waay too much, but he also did his job while he was on the field. Had he averaged the 162 game season, he'd have hit 26 HR, 110 RBI, 38 2Bs, 80 runs on average.

I'm pretty sure that 11 M annual salary he pulled in wouldn't have really done anything for the organization had they been able to spend it elsewhere. You're kidding yourself if you think they'd be able to use it to bring in a better hitter than Mike was. They probably couldn't have used it to bring in his healthy equal. The Royals weren't crippled by one large contract. They were crippled by David Glass spending well below league average in an effort to maximize his profit since he'll have to donate any profit made from the sell of the team to Kansas City charities.
