Looking forward to the Wilmington piece, because this one was excellent on NW. Interesting to hear more about the players than just staring at their lines.

At Wilmington, Buddy Baumann looks intriguing. I have to think it must be confusing for the manager to have Buddy Baumann and Barry Bowden on the same staff, though.

I'm sure Rany will include this at some point, but I'm interested to find out what happened with Jarrod Dyson. Injury? I know he's with the Gulf Coast team, but where do they put him when he's better? AA or AAA? He'll be 26 in August so it's pretty much tick-tock with him, but seems like a nice defensive replacement and speed off the bench; I don't see him as much more than that. Just curious about what happened to him.

And, btw, the Royals seem to have a LOT of 4th outfielder candidates (Orlando, Lough, Parraz, Dyson, T Smith, Ortiz), I guess, to go along with their other 4th outfielders Podsednik, Ankiel, and Maier at the ML level. Of all the positions I'd like to be deep at, 4th outfielder wouldn't even be 4th on my list. It's like being really deep at Kicker in football; it's nice, and all, but one's fine.

Thanks for the great article. It will be interesting to see the timing of the forthcoming promotions. Will they have Moose and Gordon spend any time together playing in Omaha or do they want Hosmer and Moose to spend time playing together in Arkansas? Probably doesn't matter much in the grand scheme of things, but it will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

I was hoping you'd touch a little on how Moose was progressing defensivly. I'm afraid we're making the same mistake with him as we did with Butler; playing him at a position in the minors that we're just hoping he can fill in the majors, when in all actuality he's better suited to a different position. I don't want to see him back in Omaha in 3 years learning the outfield because he can't field 3rd base and it's affecting his hitting ala Gordon (allegedly).

Just saw a NWA Nats game last Saturday and I was amazed at the amount of prospects on the team. Moustakas hit two 2Bs that night after two HRs the night before. Unfortunately, he has NO speed. Looks like Billy Butler with more power. My personal favorite pitcher in the organization so far this year is Patrick Keating. He had a rough first few games at NWA, but he has settled down to pitch the way he was at Wilmington.

It is a great timeto be a Royal's fan. That is, if you negate the performance of the major league team.

Derrick Robinson has many similarities to Willie Wilson. Outstanding high school football player talked into going into baseball. Switch hitter with little power and blazing speed. Just hoping he can BECOME Willie Wilson.

How do we know that the Royals will ever bring these guys up? I mean, this is the team that traded to get Mike Jacobs instead of bringing up Kila. This is the team that signed Pods and Ankiel before giving Mitch a chance. Thankfully, Ankiel got hurt.
GMDM has a history of overpaying crappy major leaguers instead of bringing up cheaper minor league alternatives that would post similar production.
Just not sure why this wave would be any different. I mean Kila and Gordon are putting up Bondsian numbers in Omaha. Not sure why they aren't given a look in KC.

I'll take it.

Thanks for the lowdown, Rany. By the way, one would assume the Royals saw something in Osuna that the Braves didn't, if they decided to take him in the Rule 5 draft. So maybe their scouting has been vindicated again...

Yeah, I'm so glad Ankiel got hurt so Maier could post that amazing career high .695 OPS. Wow!

Mitch has shown us that he isn't an everyday player. But you know what? we found out!
Wouldn't you love to know whether or not some of these guys can play. It is of my opinion that Kila could have done everything Jacobs did last year at 1/10 of the price w/o giving up Leo Nunez. Now, you might be an Ankiel/Jacobs fan b/c they hit 15 HR. But I wouldn't mind seeing Kila on the team. And not just for a freaking cup of joe.
The Royals keep building teams to win 75 games. Sooner or later we have to figure out how to win 90.

Why? So he can prove to you that he is what the Royals think he is, a AAAA player at best? That's what Maier has done. He's proven the Royals correct, that he's not that good. He's a fourth or fifth outfielder at best.

The Royals have plenty of scouts and plenty of information, and they obviously don't believe that Kila would be a productive major leaguer. And obviously no other team believes he would be either, at least not enough to trade for him and give him the opportunity.

Sports are littered with HOF'rs and AllStars who scouts and coaches didn't believe in. That post is such garbage. He has earned the right to be on the Royals. Especially with this slap happy lineup.

Its not just the Royals front office that's judging him. If he was as good as you stat-geeks think he is, then some other team would salivate at the chance to put him in their lineup. But, alas, no team has traded for him for going on 3 years now. So now you're going to tell me that all 30 teams are passing up on a potential Hall of Famer?

The posts that are garbage are all the ones that say putting Kila in our lineup automatically makes our team better. It doesn't. It's time to get off the Kila bandwagon.

Nathan,

That ... of yours left out the main part of what I said. But, I do agree with you: I'll take it. He went 0-3 and then hit two doubles. Springfield was playing a small shift against him for the second double so he just punched it to the opposite field and almost hit one in the Springfield bullpen.

Watching this team play is 10x more exciting than watching the big league club and I hope some of them bring that excitement to the majors.

As far as Kila, I don't think anyone is saying he is any kind of saviour for the Royals, but at least give him a legitimate try. The rumors are heavy that Guillen is being shopped so he may get his chance soon.

For those of you whom haven't visited the area of our AA team a few words. I do not live in Arkansas, in fact retiring closer to the Surprise Arizona setting soon.

My wife and I took in a few AA Nat games last Summer. We followed the Naturals from Tulsa (Drillers) great old ballpark offering buck beers to the hearty. In fact the Tulsa ball park was so very cool. For those youngsters wishing for old school, this setting gives you the feeling of 1950s baseball. We sat for next to nothing money wise behind the Nats dugout and chatted with many of our stars of the future during the game. In Springdale we stayed at what was presented as an award winning extremely reasonably Holiday Inn almost within view of the Arvest ball park. Perhaps a great ending on this little baseball trip was a relaxing drive through the Boston Mountains and a weekend at Hot Springs.
