Your Royals blog is a home run dude. I share the same passion for the royals & their future. This group of guys will be alot of fun to watch the next couple years. But how realistic is it to thank that they can improve by 20 games. Which is how many games it take for them to win the new WC spot a in the playoffs.......

How good would it be to have the all star game and the playoffs in the same year....

I also irrationally love Brayan Pena. I'd have already offered him a 10 year contract. I'm a fan, so I feel like I can afford to say those things. It's business, and I think Dayton's handling it correctly. Even with Sal, I'd still like to see Brayan catch more than once a week.

Gotta be honest, I think you are heaping way too much praise on Salvador Perez after only 39 big league games. I love the guy as much as anyone, but to say he's going to have a better career than Sandy Alomar or Yadier Molina is jumping the gun quite a bit. Lets see him over a full year before we start making bold statements like that.

He didn't say he was going to have better careers than them. He said his upside is better...which means if nothing goes wrong, he has a good shot to be better. That's not the same thing as flat out saying he's going to be better.

"[Brayan Pena] can pinch-hit for Alcides Escobar against right-handed closers in key situations, assuming Ned Yost doesn’t continue to value 'development' over winning games in the here and now."

"Development" is the primary reason we are where we are as Royals' fans... Pinch hitting for Escobar with Pena makes no sense to me. Oh, but Pena is a switch hitter so he has the platoon advantage when he goes to the plate. Right…

Career vs RHP:
Escobar:
PA: 962
BA: .247
OBP: .284
GDP: 12

Pena (as LHB):
PA: 478
BA: .258
OBP: .296
GDP: 14

So, let’s say that Escobar came to the plate against right-handed closers in key situations in every single game. As far as the rate stats go, I would expect Pena to get 42 hits and get on base 48 times. I would expect Escobar to get 40 hits and get on base 46 times. So, we’re talking 2 hits over a season. Oh, and Pena is more than twice as likely to ground into a double-play. Also, Escobar’s replacement would be both inferior defensively and tight.

I don’t think Escobar should be pinch hit for, period. I am happy with his and the Royals’ “development.”

First off, love the blog. Secondly, while you have an irrational love for Brayan Pena, whom I also like, I have an irrational love for Matt Treanor. He's got that gritty, old-school narrative that we love to romanticize. It's the "Can't hit? Who cares? He does what it takes to win!" type thing. While I hate managers and GMs who build teams with goo-goo eyes toward players like Treanor, I love those players themselves. The Henry Blanco's, Darren Erstad's, and ... well I can't think of a third, but there out there. It's part of the American ideal in which we think with just a little more grit, determination, or lucky breaks, we could be the one standing on that field. Delusional but compelling.
