On April 1, Yost says, “I like to set the lineup. And then, if a player is really struggling, I’ll get to a point to where I’m ready to move him. Then I’ll wait another week – and then move him (if things don’t change).”

So that must have been about the time that he was ready to sit Aviles.

With Aviles, I don't think they've given up on him. He was visibly frustrated and letting the slump get to him. Sitting him a few days and allowing him to get his head right is a reasonable thing to do.

What about Crow's potential mirror of a Greinke 08 season?

Aviles seems to be very weak mentally. His glove is killing us. He's also weak with RISP. Right now, he's a solid backup

Is it possible that the wealth of upcoming talent has inspired the current team to play better because they know they may lose their jobs soon if they don't? I hope that's the case.

Damn. Did Robinson Tejada read this before crapping his pants in the 10th inning tonight?

I've been trying to convince a few folks that Betemit should play...not because he's better than Aviles, but because if his productivity matches last year (and he's almost always raked as a LHB in his career), I can see some AL team thinking, "Hey, this guy can DH for us every day and help with our playoff push!" and overpaying for him. Heck, they may even slot him a 3B if he doesn't clank too many.

The thinking of course, is that Getz will fall back to Earth and Aviles can slide into 2B. If Getz stays competent, like you said, that's fine...the Royals might have stumbled into a 2nd baseman, kind of.

I don't know about the real major leagues, Daniel, but in my fantasy league I just picked Betemit up. I'm convinced he's going to play well this year. So if he goes to crap, you know who to blame!!

You mean Greinke's '07, right?

Based on their usage of Crow and the idea that maybe he doesn't have enough pitches, I'm thinking they're leaving him in the pen for good.

Where's the part about how Kila can't hit a curveball to save his life? He's striking out 38% of the time. His BABIP is around .230-ish... Aviles could just be the victim of bad luck at this point, but Kila... He's missing pitches.

If Kila continued to struggle, would they bring up Clint Robinson before Hosmer?

No worries, Chris, I've already blamed you for a ton of things you had nothing to do with, so I don't mind blaming you one more time. =)

Hopefully the Royals are telling Kila to sit on breaking balls...it's not the answer to making him a good hitter, but it could be the answer to making pitchers not-so-quick to exploit him on it.

Great line.

Yost has demoted Tejada from the primary set-up role. He will instead go with whoever has the least "vibration."

"They're as competitive of a group as I've seen" Yost said. "There's no vibrate. When you go out to give young guys the ball, you usually see some vibration, but there's one of that with them. That's impressive in itself."

Yeah, Greinke 07. Man it really felt like 08, but i looked it up and what was the point of 08 then? jeesh those mediocre seasons run together.

Yeah someone really scared me on here and said that he saw all the MU games and Crow would always come out throwing gas and dominate the first 3 innings but bottomed out as the game progressed. Sounds like a reliever, but maybe McClure can let Crow know, the way he did with Greinke, the different mentality/agressiveness/tenancity that you have as a reliever than you do a starter. Greinke was hitting 98 somedays in relief. when he started, to be generous, he topped out at 95 but mostly 93.
The slider is so vicious though i wonder if Crow can throw that full speed in starts anyway? At the end of a game as an outpitch only. I also wonder if stamina can be improved upon? If there is anything that is capable of being improved in sports--all the way around, its got to be stamina right?

I'd like to see Crow start, but either way, Davies needs to be DFA'd by the end of the month. Anybody can eat innings and give up a run per.

I predict a good start for Davies next time out...7IP, 2BB, 8SO, 1ER, just you watch. His timing usually worked something like this last year, if memory served. Two or three bad starts in a row before he uncorked a gem and confused as much as delighted us.

Rany,
Have you heard Jason Parch talk about Jason Adam in Kevin Goldstein's Baseball Prospectus Podcast Episode #42 or have you talked to him directly about him? For those that havent listened to the Goldstein podcast, it is awesome. Below is a summary of what Jason Parch said about Adam on podcast #42.

19 year old kid with a 6'4", 220lb frame whose fastball was sitting at 94-96mph. Lot of polish with a 70 grade fastball, a 65 curve and an average changeup. He said he was "blown away" by him and said if you would have told him he was a AAA guy getting some polish he would have believed it. He said hes smart, has great stuff and has really taken to instruction..thus the addition of 5-6 mph on his fastball since being drafted. He said he will be in full season ball this summer. Comparison was made to Shelby Miller...Wow.

He also mentioned Cheslor Cuthbert. Jason said he is a little thick and squatty but has impressed with the bat and the glove down in Arizona. His take was an average glove/arm with very fast hands, good balance and awareness at the plate. He said he will also be in full season ball this year despite being 18 years old. Said he projects for some real power and he said multiple times he is very smart. He said while hes not a super star, almost everything projects to be average or above.

Furthermore, he said hes been impressed with "a lot of the low level Royals players". Maybe the next wave will be as good as the one that's around the corner? Maybe an post idea?

aaah, your twitter about Greg M was an unexpected gut punch...wow--it seems that CAI has been one of the lone consistent bright spots for Pakistan and more recently for Afghanistan. I listened to his co-author speak and TCoT was a big inspiration for me when I quit my job to join a startup... youch! I suppose that it was too good to be true--but hope that the good work that has been accomplished is able to be continue.
Thank you for keeping us all up to date.

He guys and gals, I posted a note a month or so ago questioning why people were so down on the twenty 11 Royals.

My thinking was who could predict, because the team was almost completely different.

Who knows, yet it looks like Getz for instance is the real deal. Outfield with guns and power. ummm?

Totally different team.

The Royals are 10-4 and the LEAD THE LEAGUE in OBP. Someone should give Kevin Seitzer a raise if for no other reason than getting Alex Gordon turned around.
