I believe Gomes was obtained strictly because Alex Rios had the chickenpox and they had no idea how long he would be out. Goms has been terrible offensively and defensively since he came here. I do not want him on the team or the playoff roster for that matter.

Alex Rios has not-so-quietly become a defensive liability, unfortunately. He just doesn't get to anything anymore. I've actually been rooting against this hot streak in hopes that he'd force Ned's hand on the move to Dyson...but he's won the RF job with his hitting of late. I'm now just hopeful that we'll use Dyson liberally as a defensive replacement late in games, maybe spot starting him against right handers some.

That seems the new best case scenario.

I don't think Yost has improved one iota as a tactician / strategen. We have damn good horses.

Absolutely correct, Rios is a defensive liability.

I think Gomes was acquired b/c the Royals are appreciably worse against lefties and his career slash line is .274/.377/.482. A guy that OPSes north of .850 can really help on that front. If he's on the playoff roster, it would be for that skill.

I think they really acquired him as Rios insurance. Had Rios continued to struggle offensively, I think we'd have eventually seen a Dyson/Gomes platoon.

Speaking to the defense and hustle of Rios, this might go back to the injury thing Rany brought up. The guy has never played in the postseason and I sincerely doubt he wants to risk another potential injury diving for catchable balls. Especially so since the Royals basically wrapped up the division in July. I'm not defending Rios (I seethe every time I see his name in the lineup). I just think (and hope) he's holding back and saving something for their run in October.

the 2-3 and 2-2-1 formats have exactly the same home field advantage mathematically.

Rios has been a very hot hitter the last 6 weeks. Yes, for half this year he was absolutely horrible. If he continues his hot hitting he should be starting and playing right field. I love Dyson and what he can do on the bases and in the field, but that makes him a great pinch runner/defensive replacement, not a starter. Give Rios 3 ab's to help us get a lead, then put in Dyson to help preserve it.

I always thought Butera kinda looked like Collin Ferrell, but that's just me.

Nice surprise to see the blog resurrected, if briefly (but then again, maybe not such a surprise given the season).

I'm sure you've seen the 30 for 30 on the KOrean fan. Really nice to see the enthusiasm and the way the city embraced him.

I'm very curious how the Royals see Zobrist -- will they try to resign him, especially at a price reflective of his unique talents? But more importantly, wither Gordon? I suspect that if the Royals go as far as the WS or even win it all and Gordon does any measure of goodness or greatness, they will want to keep him, even if it costs.
