I have a hard time agreeing with you this time. I understand what you are sating about the shift, but two batters in a row it did not work. I was yelling terrible words at the TV (even though it was not the televisions fault) because of what I saw as another Yost failure. After a moment of calm reflection though, I can see your point. I agree that, using the data available on Prince, the shift should be on. But, it hard to forgive what seems to very poor in game management. I can see his worth with the young guys, but maybe we would all be better off if he was a bench coach and someone else was brought in as the actual manager. I admit that I have no idea who at this point.I am just thinking that the dark cloud has got to lift at some point; most of this losing streak just seems to be bad luck. The BABIP has to work in the Royals favor at some point.

Looks like I should edit these things before I post them. Put it down to post game emotion.

I don't know Rany...I'd say judge him by his action (pitching to Fielder), rather than his comment.

He may well have just been shielding his players from criticism in the midst of a long losing streak.

I think he should have walked Fielder and brought in Crow to pitch to Young. I'm not going to let Fielder beat me in that situation. Yost was right. He made the wrong decision.

I was shocked he left him in to face Cabrera, I was waiting for Cabrera to crush him. I would have put Crow in right after the Boesch AB and had Crow face Caberara, walk Fielder and face Young.

I will go a little further on this. I believe Kelvin Herrera should have been left in the game to face the lefty. He was hitting 100 on the radar gun and his changeup can neutralize the lefty righty advantage. That would have left him in there to face Miguel Cabrera instead of a left handed specialist to face him. The if Fielder comes to the plate you bring in Marejes.
I also have never been the fan of extreme shifts. I believe in cheating hitters towards their tendencies, but to flood one side of the field and take everyone out of position just seems like it lowers the odds to me.

What puzzles me is that Mijares fits the profile of a LOOGY, yet Yost insists on using him as a regular reliever. Then Collins, whose splits are better against righties is brought in to face left-handed hitters.

I agree with the earlier comment, that cheating your defense is fine, but unless the spray charts show that a hitter never goes the other way you are just gambling when putting on extreme shifts.

I'm starting to think that if Yost is really that good at developing young talent, and really that bad at in-game strategy, then perhaps he should delegate the game management to Chino.

Giovatella needs to be in this lineup.

I would find a place for Dyson as well. It is my opinion that Dyson could be a real weapon if used correctly. But he is not on this roster because Ned Yost has no idea how to use him correctly.

I get that Chris Getz is a good professional. I get that he is a good teammate. I get that he plays the game the right way. He does not help the team win. Maybe he could teach guys how to be professional in Omaha.

The Royals are 3-9 after being swept by the team most predicted would walk away with the AL Central, and who won the division by the most games of any division winner, and then added Prince Fielder in the off-season. They have proven veterans at almost every position. RELAX.

Cleveland is a decent team. We dhouldn't have gotten swept, but some STRANGE stuff happened in that series. The real shame is what happened in Oakland.

I beleive that it is WAY too early to hit the panic button.

Remember when the Blue Jays fired Jimy Williams at the start of the season then hired Cito Gaston? Then they won two World Series? How I wish it really worked that way.

I agree that Yost was protecting his players and trying to take some heat off of them during what I am sure is an emotionally painful losing streak in that clubhouse. Welcome to expectations boys. Glad to see them struggle now. They will learn a lot about themselves over the next month and be better off for it

Yost is terrible with using bullpens properly. Any Brewers fan could tell you that.

What I do not understand is the "Yost is good for developing players" meme. All he did was put a handful of elite prospects on the field and let them play. And let's be honest, it is not like the Brewers had any better options. The Brewers were awful when those guys came up from the minors.

I suppose I could take credit for teaching my kid to walk, but at the end of the day, all I did was let him roll around on the floor until he figured it out himself. Weeks, Braun, Hardy, Fielder were all elite prospects. And Fielder and Braun were very good almost immediately.

How much managerial talent does it take to let elite prospects play? Especially when they are clearly the best option the team has?

The truth is that managers have little impact on the game. The Royals are losing because they are not hitting. And because their SP is bad. Everyone knew the SP was not going to be very good. The surprising thing is the hitting is slumping.

But I think the hitting will come around and this will be a 75 win team. And that is right around the win total that ZIPS and PECOTA had them pegged at. We are just dealing with a small sample size.

Sorry Rany - think you're using selective numbers to make your point - that MIL situation is apples and oranges:

Howard vs LHP: .749 career OPS
Burrell vs LHP: .891 career OPS

You walked him - You're Fired.

Fielder vs LHP: .799 career OPS
Young vs RHP: .722 career OPS

Should've walked him.

The manager is one of the most over rated positions in all of sports.

In my opinion the manager has only one job; to use his bullpen and pinch runners/hitters effectively.

If you cant do that yous shouldnt deserve to be a MLB manager.

For instance he brought in Mijares to face Boesch who hits nearly .322 against lefties.

He should have brought in coleman for boesch and cabrera and have mijares face Fielder

Diet Pepsi is right. Raney is losing it. Uncharacteristically bad assessment. Yost is not a good tactical manager. He mostly gives up way too many outs. But here, he was correct to criticize himself.

Does anyone know if there is a consensus #1 pick in the 2013 draft? Cause that might end up being the only compelling "race" to watch this year... Seriously.

The Royals will continue to lose until they are developed, managed, and coached like an AL team simple and plain from President Dan Glass all the way down to the coaches in the Rookie Leagues.
