I hate the idea of there being Ford films I haven't seen. And you can't keep me away from J. Farrell MacDonald. It would be interesting to see the filmic touches you mention. Thanks for the eye-opener.

Now I hope this film was easily available. Every John Ford movie should be seen.
THe not-new plots, including the kid learning how to be a valuable member of the crew, reminded me of another Ford film, Mister Roberts.

Thank you for writing about a Ford film I wasn't aware of. Poor Elisha Cook Jr, and his thumb! Too bad that it kept him from being a part of other Ford films.
