That's exactly why I quit the business. What is so worth saying that I'd go to the extent of saying it meticulously, frame by frame? I'll do office-work rather than animate another home appliance commercial.

Not that I compare myself to Tytla or John Wayne.

Your analysis is spot-on. I love the comparison you made between Ford and Hawks.
After reading your site, I watched Red River (on PBS last night) for the 100th time. Watching the Actors Studio of Montgomery Clift blend with the acting of John Wayne is wonderful. It's a great film.

Nice analysis, Mark. There was a great revised biography of Wayne recently, where they showed that even his walk was a self-creation. They demonstrated how before 1935 Wayne walked like anyone else, but at a certain point began that signature swagger we associate with him. It was a deliberate move to create his character in the public's mind. Wayne's greatest perfomance was in creating John Wayne.
