MADRID, Apr. 2, 2008 (Thomson Financial delivered by Newstex) -- Iberdrola SA (OOTC:IBDSF) (OOTC:IBDRY) will study purchasing Babcock & Brown's (OOTC:BBNLF) wind energy assets valued at 3.5 billion to 4.0 billion euros, Expansion reported, citing unnamed market sources.
Electricite de France (OOTC:ECIFF) , Suez (NYSE:SZEZY) , E.ON, Enel and General Electric (NYSE:GE) are also expected to bid, the newspaper reported.
It cited unnamed Iberdrola sources as confirming that the Basque utility will take a look at the opportunities.
Babcock & Brown has put up for sale 3,000 megwatts of wind power in Spain, Portugal, France, Italy and Germany, Expansion reported.
The operation will take about six months and the assets' sale prospectus will be ready in a few days, it noted.
