RE: Iberdrola/Energy East acquisition
Ms. Fanslet, it is our understanding that you will accept responsibility that Chairman Garry A. Brown and all PSC commissioners will receive this message. Cohocton Wind Watch has worked closely with the New York Public Service Commission. Several of our members have contributed significant information on energy policy with the PSC staff. CWW is concerned about ill-conceived wind turbine projects in NYS. The proposed approval of the Iberdrola acquisition of Energy East would create a virtual industrial wind monopoly. Long standing NYS energy policy and laws are clear. Deregulation requires that Iberdrola must not own generation facilities of any kind, while providing distribution and transmission functions.
Proponents of the Iberdrola acquisition are demanding that the PSC violates NYS law and their own energy policy. Such a departure from sound deregulation PSC policy will surely set off endless rounds of litigation and cause incontrovertible damage to electric consumers and taxpayers.
