There's no single energy panacea that can replace fossil fuels, but a mix of conservation and renewables can significantly reduce dependence on these dirty sources of energy.

I find it just a bit ironic that folks up north complain about wind turbines spoiling the view, etc. while the mountains in my area are being blown to bits to harvest the coal used for electricity. Water is polluted, homes are destroyed, and habitats devastated in the name of keeping the lights on. I'd much rather see a wind turbine than the moonscape left behind by mountain top removal mining. Think about it...
