Yeah, Horrorhound is a great magazine and has gained a lot of momentum in a short amount of time. In case most or all those movies never hit DVD, a lot of them are available in English friendly DVD's from overseas. They also listed DEATH WEEKEND twice on that list. That's one I'd like to get a legit disc of.
If you are a fan of Jason Vorhees and the FRIDAY THE 13TH film series, you must own a copy of HORROR HOUND #24. Subtitled: "30 Years Later - The Rise and Fall of Voorhees", the retrospective runs a staggering twenty-eight pages! Heavily illustrated, the article discusses the history of the series and it's enduring (although slightly waning these days) popularity. Included are reviews of each one of the films.
As for the rest of the issue, it's got more goodies than you can shake a Milk Bone at. Outside of the "13th" article, my favorite was "The Most Wanted . . . or I Can't Believe That's STILL Not on DVD!", in which is listed 100 horror films that haven't yet made it (legally or legitimately) to DVD. When I see titles like THE AMAZING COLOSSAL MAN, THE BLACK SLEEP, BLOOD BEACH, BURN WITCH, BURN!, DR. TERROR'S HOUSE OF HORRORS, THE GREEN SLIME, HOUSE OF/NIGHT OF DARK SHADOWS, I WAS A TEENAGE FRANKENSTEIN/WEREWOLF, INVASION OF THE SAUCERMEN, ISLE OF THE LOST SOULS, THE KEEP, and WILLARD, I want to jump up and scream: "Why not, you brain dead distributors!"
Another very cool article was "The HMA. Net Presents Horror Sanctum Studios". The Halloween Mask Association is an organization devoted to the preservation of the great heritage of monster masks. Sam McCain, the creator of Horror Sanctum Studios, is interviewed.
The issue is rounded out with the usual news and reviews. No high-brow film criticism here, just all nicely written in a casual, entertaining style.
I have not read much of this magazine until the last couple of issues, and I've got to say that it's growing on me as quick as a MATANGO mushroom!
