I actually disagree. When we saw Robert Reich speak, he quoted many statistics showing just how many Americans (i.e. the majority) are in fact centrist/moderate. For example, most people believe there should be some limits on abortion, but that it should be legal. There are other examples as well, but I'm too tired to write about them right now.

Schaller explodes the myth of "the all-important political center" (HT: Pandagon). The Republicans have figured this out (but have managed to screw things up so bad they're still in deep trouble). It would help us enormously if Democrats reprogrammed their instincts to take this reality into account.
