Yes, these people believe that drilling a hole in your skull will unleash all manner of psychic improvements. Read their FAQ. There’s this tongue-in-cheek (I think, I hope) Self-Trepanation for Dummies guide. There’s this article, which describes some early, drugged out pioneers of this practice. They have some interesting pseudo-scientific babble backing up their wacky theories. They have people you can email who have undergone the procedure. Is this all a big hoax? I sure hope so. But it definitely blows my mind. Remember the old Prince lyric, “U need another lover like u need a hole in yo head”? [I had to “Princify” the spelling after looking up the lyrics.] Maybe this group should adapt a subversive reading of that song and use it as their anthem.

What a bunch of weirdos. Almost as weird as the self-amputation freaks.

Is it wrong to mock and laugh at these people? Yes I suppose it is. They are probably sick or deluded badly and need education, help, medical attention, therapy, and love. But man, it is hard to stretch your empathic self into these realms. It’s just so strange.
