Hi Bee,

A neat video and I would agree the rap format is not what I consider the best format to present this quantity and depth of information as I find I don’t process well at such a rate. Unfortunately at my rate of intake a ballad would be more appropriate:-)

Oh yes, I wish you the best with your talk and the conference. Right now however I think you need a break, so I advise before you suffer any further collision of thought that you take your credit card to the beer store to purchase a beverage that will serve to relax yet has not been shown to leave any lasting footprint in your body’s arrangement of deoxyribonucleic acid.

Best,

Phil

Well done :-)

I'm not a beer drinker though.

I've always wondered at this girly 'I don't like the taste of beer' thing. I used to think it was a sugar/flower smell-like thing, but I dunno. In either case, is this genetic?

As for the vid music, well, notice the age of the techs. Says it all, although the rap was of a fairly mellow nature compared to some; and perhaps you missed the nod to Hawking in the main 'voice'?

Hi Bee,

“'I’m not a beer drinker though.”

I thought you might say that and yet I find this hard to understand as you being from Germany. Well they also have ale and stout, so how about a Guinness:-)

Best,

Phil

This stereotype is really hard to overcome. I don't drink beer either, but as a male German I always feel pressed to explain myself, as I can't even blame my chromosomes (desoxyribonucleic acid, here it comes again).
Nice video, although by now anyone in the physics blogosphere should know it -- dorigo pointed to it something like a week ago.

Hi Odysseus,

“This stereotype is really hard to overcome. I don't drink beer either, but as a male German I always feel pressed to explain myself, as I can't even blame my chromosomes”.

I guess it’s consistent with believing everyone from France enjoys wine or those from Scotland scotch. That festival being held next month which has persisted for centuries I would contend furthers to strengthen that impression. There is evidence that beer consumption in relation to other beverages is in decline, so you and Bee may represent that new forming paradigm. Somehow though I still can’t imagine an Oktoberfest where fruit juice and bottled water form to be the focus and featured attraction.

Best,

Phil

Those CERN workers must get giddy taking the elevator up and down to work every day ... for look over here where it says that the LHC "is a ring that is 17 miles below ground." lol ...

Hi Bellamy,

Well I just don't like beer. It's not that it kills me, just if I have a choice (and I usually have) I'd rather chose something different. Don't know whether that's genetic. If you want to have a DNA sample I could try spitting on the keyboard? I know quite a lot of women though who like beer, so can't be as easy as that.

Hi Phil, Hi Odysseus,

Yeah, I guess I don't make a good German. I'm supposed to eat lots of sausages and drink beer, but in fact I'm a vegetarian who doesn't like beer. Must be very disappointing. Best,

B.

This does explain things to some degree for I can’t imagine washing down bratwurst with a glass of chardonnay, yet it does go well with some light pasta dishes:-) Some foods just go better with certain beverages. Also, as I indicated in my last note the demographic in Germany is shifting so you actually do represent to be the “new German”.

Best,

Phil

I prefer Les Horribles Cernettes myself to the hip-hop stuff. Plus they were down on the LHC way before these rap posers!

Bee, I don't think it's strictly gender-related, just that some components in gender - either gender, and in this case a preference for sweet smelling/tasting things - might be relevant. Or, it could be something particular in your genetics, as everyone has peculiarities regarding taste and smell and these are genetically based.

I like various alcoholic things, I love coffee, I like various teas, juices can be nice....and yet I don't drink these hardly ever. I prefer plain old water.

Hi Bellamy,

Yeah, sure. That might indeed be. Just that I don't find wine to be sweeter than beer, so not sure how that relates. Best,

B.

I like a glass of wine with dinner, and on occasion I'm in cocktail mood, but I'm not much of a drinker.
