Like the hip check definition! We've had car doors that required a bit of that...

We bought our dishwasher second hand (I am the Troc queen, of course...) and it is doing us proud. The only thing that really matters to us is that it has efficient use of electricty and water, and you can check those ratings quite easily. Everything else is irrelevant, unless, as you say, they invent one that puts away, too!

Oh how I dream of a dishwasher.... I am fed up with doing dishes.... but at the moment our boiler needs replacing and I really aught to get a freezer... and my mum can't believe I don't have a microwave... but its all just overpriced electonic clutter... I am like you I would rather spend the money on yarn or paints or fabric or anything nice and pretty and colourful....

Fab post though... and one day I will have a range! maybe! ;D

lovely post....

LOL! I hate buying appliances too Ele! It seems like every couple years, my washer/dryer breaks down! So much laundry in this house. I hope your dishwasher keeps going!!

I am with Viv - I NEVER used a dishwasher 'cause I don't really mind washing dishes, AND I'm too cheap - uh - conservative - to use the hot water & electricity required. AND I'm so with YOU, Ele - I could care LESS how low on the totem pole the appliance is - if it does its job, it gets MY vote! Same with CARS. To ME, a wonderful car is one that DOESN'T break down when you ride in it. (And Connie, I'M ALSO WITH YOU! I ADORE that white kitchen!)Aren't I agreeable today? LOL! P.S. My hip check has been used to move heavy furniture.

I so want that first stove and my next sink will be an apron front, or the white porcelain kind that is about 5 feet long and half of it is drain board. I don't think they make them anymore though.

...oh bummer!! Such a pain to have something like that go out! It may not be a big deal if replacing it didn't cost sooooo much. Note: we have stainless steel appliances (not by my choice) and I cannot stand them. Just a tip....

I'm with you on the appliance subject and a washer/dryer is a bit more exciting. However I have had at least 5 different dishwashers in my life and I always have the same problem, My DISHES JUST DON'T FIT WELL!!! DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE THAT PROBLEM? I think it is why my beautiful dishes have so many chips. I like to hand wash but it kills my back hubby is a great help but he never sees the silverware or the pots and pans, selective vision I guess. Great Post! Meg

Ele I'm LOL at your post.My dishwasher is on its last leg too.Its my second one and the house is only 10 years old.I have to move mine just to the right spot and it will work.Wait for that certain click.I hate dishwashers anyway.I HATE unloading them.I use mine to store my pots and pans and mainly all my different cake pans.I won't buy another one.I think they make appliances cheaply so we have to keep buying them.I don't have a microwave anymore either it was my second one.I buy second hand now,as we did with the washer and dryer got the front loaders dirt cheap cause a couple got a new set for xmas from her parents.Must be nice to be rich huh... We went to black appliances in the kitchen second time around my stove has not been replaced yet, knock on wood,Joe replaced parts in it but thats it.Our first fridge broke and we bought a second then Joe was able to fix the first one so now I have 2 fridges which is great for the garage and side by sides don't hold alot anyway.Well I better stop writing LOL Hugs,Jen

You're so funny! I had to recently get a new dishwasher too. It's no fun "wasting" good antiquing/thrifting money on silly ole' necessities! lol. Hope yours hangs in there for you a little while longer :)

I am SOOO with you, Ele. I hate to spend money on appliances, underwear, garage door openers, etc. Now, BLING is another story!!

I love your bathroom re-do & that sweet heart-shaped seashell mirror! The chandy in your family room is going to be gorgeous. I just adore French pendants.

Love you,
Stephanie

Ladies, it is fun to hear your opinions on dishwashers/washing dishes. I also would rather have an apron front sink, instead of a new dishwasher! I do agree on getting good appliances on efficiency. Let's be smart people.

Oh my goodness!! The powder blue vintage stove reminded me of how much I loved our vintage Royal Rose stove when we bought our house almost ten years ago. How I loved that stove!! I kept it for about three years and was able to cook three Thanksgiving turkeys in that beauty. Then it started to take as long for it to preheat as it did to cook the turkey and I knew it was time to put it out to pasture. LOL!! I tried to give it away and even put a "Free" sign on it when it was curbside but there were no takers. I couldn't bear to look as it was loaded onto a truck on bulk pick-up day!! Thanks for the memories. I missed following your blog and am so glad I found it again!!

What a cute post...as a matter of fact...I don't much like appliance shopping either...but since my fridge broke a couple days ago, I had to go and get another one...I would've so liked to spend that money 1000 other ways.
