UGH.... grubs are slowly creeping up to be most feared bug putting roaches at a close 2nd. They're hideous.
The way they just pulsate when they move.. BLEH.
We had an outbreak of them here a couple years ago.. freaking nasty, specially when one or your dogs wants to bring it inside to show to you and you have to clean it up! Then when it dies it lets off a nasty black ooze that doesn't want to wash away. UGH I hate them!

Who here has read "Transmetropolitan?"

I just got books 6 and 7 and this SO reminds me of that future ...

According to my Classics professor the Romans ate mice ... "Normal food" is a cultural construct!

That must have been really painful for those grubs; a stab through the heart, literally.

IMO the "ugly" side of animals is when they are abused and taken for granted. All life is important, even if you are a larvae who's insides have been stabbed and a frying pan is your fate. You are far more beautiful than what you are exploited for.

NOT "ugly" : Life.

I'll try anything once. Who would have thought about eating a cow, sheep or deer? Why does it become a problem to eat something ugly? I wouldn't want to eat them alive, but if they're disguised I would most likely be happy to try.

So you're saying you'd rather spare a grub's life than the life of a starving child?

Sorry, but THAT's ugly in my book...

If they remove the grub's intestine (the source of the nasty black ooze) like they remove the gritty intestine from a shrimp, then I might just try a bite. After all, shrimps and grubs are similar animals. Those grubs are about the same size as most shrimps.

Be careful eating bugs in Thailand. I know it looks cool, and might even taste good (I was too cowardly to try), but they sometimes 'slaughter' them with nasty insecticides!

Perhaps best to enjoy their aesthetic qualities.

Those grubs in the picture are called sago worms. I've tried them fried and they're delicious! Very sweetish kind of meat.
