This has got to be one of the strangest photos I've ever seen. I'd give a lot to know what's really going on here...

That's a common posture for lemurs, especially in the morning when they're "warming up" and have their bellies to the sun (I've been at a zoo with a "lemur island," and the whole group is soakin' up the rays).
As for the tongue? I got nothing.

Really. I had no idea they sat like this. Maybe the tongue issue was just one of those embarrassing, split second things caught by the camera. Most of the photos taken of me resemble this in one form or another...

This ring-tailed lemur is either deep in meditation, or he's just chomped into some rotten fruit. The second choice is more likely to explain the tongue-lolling. Although, what exactly happens when a lemur achieves true enlightenment? Photo source: Knuttz[Image]
