Yep, Gunbird 2 slows down in VGA mode, pretty unplayable. RGB is the way to go with this game.

I imported the Dreamcast from Japan back in 1998, and picked one up on launch day in the United States on September 9, 1999. I agree with your comment about Wacky Races. It's definitely an underappreciated gem, especially if you ever caught re-runs of the cartoon on Cartoon Network or Boomerang.

But, to me, I was way more interested in the burgeoning indie development tools at this point in the Dreamcast's history. The Action Replay CDX was just released the previous month, showing how independent code could run on Dreamcast, and a scant few weeks later Marcus Comstedt released example code showing how indie developers can create their own Dreamcast games.

July 2000 was the month that herozero released his hzlib, a small Dreamcast development library that expanded on Marcus Comstedt's code. July 2000 was also the month that http://www.boob.co.uk - BOOB! Dreamcast Research launched, and I was transfixed to every post.

The prospect of writing my own code and having it load on a major console without a modchip was super exciting to me. The Dreamcast's game library was definitely awesome, but I honestly think that the former is the main reason that it's one of my favorite video game consoles of all time.
