I tried spraying a Saturn with white paint a few years ago. The paint kept flaking off, so I varnished it...and I was left with a sticky yellowish mess that stank the house out for about a week before I was forced to bin it and buy another 'regular' one. Ah, fond memories of cack-handed modding. That DC looks cool though - just keep it away from the Ronseal!!
Yeah, its funny the Dreamcasts white and you want a black one. The Sega Saturns black and you want a white one. We're never happy. No doubt if a consoles standard colour was pure gold we'd paint it yellowng grey...
After the paint dried, did the lid get painted shut??
Speaking of altered Dreamcasts, check out my recent purchase of an HKT-3000 Japanese Dreamcast. I posted photos of the subtle aesthetic differences between it and my HKT-3020 US model. Click my name or visit: http://the-nomad-junkyard.blogspot.com/2009/03/nnn-turning-japanese-part-1.html
I didn't paint the lid shut. It all works perfectly smoothly. I even took out the buttons and sprayed them separately so that exact thing didn't happen.
Yeah, clear green was always the last to be bought. I'd love an orange or red Dreamcast, to match the logo or light. But the smoke (clear gray) case I had for a while was pretty tight. Watching the GD-ROM spinning was more fun than playing Episode 1 Racer.
What are your plans with the logo sticker? I'm assuming you peeled it off before painting. Printing up a black and white version? Or even cooler: black background and silver swirl/logo (that'd look pretty sweet)

If anybody really needs to know if youre painting plastic as thick as that you need to sand it down, spray it with primer[let it dry] apply a couple of coats to it[again, let them dry inbetween] and there should last about 5 or so years if well kept
I picked up a bit of a scuzzy PAL Dreamcast on eBay. Nothing really wrong with it, just some yellowing: [Image]
I had a can of spray paint that was left over from when I sprayed some wood for something years ago... and I remember how much I loved the smell of solvents. Anyway, I got spraying. Paint that is.

I would love a Black Dreamcast but I just know that if I tried something like this is it would end disastrously.

Agreed, Cat. However, what actually ended up happening was that I got carried away and bought limited edition dreamcasts :)

They sell custom Dreamcast cases in some game stores.
You take off the normal case and put all the guts into the new one.
However all the ones I saw were clear green and didn't look all that cool.
