Thanks for the post. Another view on the notion of gods from a Buddhist perspective comes from the Buddhist's rejection of an independent eternal god which is somehow also functional. From that POV, gods can exist, but they are like all other compound things in the sense that they are (well, compound and) temporary.

Yes. At the moment I'm working through Warder's Introduction to Pali with some friends and one of the early examples is: devā cavanti - gods die. That has always made me smile :-)
