Dear Jaya,

I was amazed to stumble into your Arapatsana page, since it is a subject that has fascinated me for a long time, too. I learned some interesting new things about it listening to the audio of your talk.

Here's one recent publication that you may want to add to your bibliography:

Devotional, Covenantal and Yogic: Three Episodes in the Religious Use of Alphabet and Letter from a Millennium of Great Vehicle Buddhism. Contained in: Sergio La Porta and David Shulman, eds., The Poetics of Grammar and the Metaphysics of Sound and Sign, Jerusalem Studies in Religion and Culture series no. 6, Brill (Leiden 2007), pp. 201-229.

Of course, it was several years in press, and doesn't take account of the Bajaur manuscript and some other recent writings. I think you would like some of the other articles in this pricey volume (perhaps your local university will order it), although they aren't about Buddhism.

Cheers!
Dan
