I have been reading your blog posts for a few days now and they have been continually giving me newer insights into Vedic and Buddhist/post-Vedic history of India and Sanskrit etymology as well! I am looking forward to more posts by you!

A couple of comments on the current post -

Skt. root dhr does seem to have a PIE base, viz., dher- and thus making it cognate to Lat. firmus and Lat. thronus / Gk. thronos. (vide the online etymology dictionary)

A nitpicking comment: Shatapatha Brahmana is associated with Yajurveda (Shukla YV) and not Rgveda (note # 2 of your post).

And lastly, on your post on the principle of equivalence of Chetana and Karma, the sermon on the mount deserves a mention - "But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart."

Excellent posts!
Regards.

Hi Rahul

Thanks for your comments - I have amended that note.

Yes there are cognates for other words from dhṛ - just not for dharma.

It's been a while since I read the bible. And yes that does seem to be the same thing.

Best Wishes
Jayarava
