Your the second person to call me "geezer" in two days. What does one say?

Was just talking about ways of talking about nirvana a couple of days ago. Lovely! ...For us ADD types, suggest a short list of translations at the top.

Hi Suvarnaprabha

List at the top just for you. Though I'm not entirely convinced that catering to a short attention span is a good thing :-)

I've left the list at the end as well.

On day it might be interesting to gather up other synonyms and make an uber list.

Hi Jayarava,

Thanks for working through that long list :-)

Just one idea: apalokitaṃ. It comes from palujjati which the PED gives as "to break (intrs.) to fall down, crumble, to be dissolved" - which explains Bhikkhu Bodhi's translation as "undisintegrating".

The blowing out is still my favorite one, especially because "fire" (as a process) hardly "exists" and thus c a n be blown out (aka bhavanirodho nibbanam).

Hi Theravadin: It was my pleasure in a geeky kind of way :-)

Thanks for the pointer on apalokitam - obvious now you've pointed it out.

Cheers

Thanks for the correction on my blog over the "Om." I've just always heard it said that way so I appreciate your comment. Also, I have yet to get it tattooed with your design as I said I would. When I do please know that I will contact you and pay for your design. :)
