I feel this post is as good as any to ask this question... Where have you studied? Are you self-taught? I've been following your blog for awhile, and it has remained a mystery. I'm very curious. Good stuff!

Hi Luke

I taught myself what Pāli I know, though I have a friend who gives me pointers when I get stuck. I did audit an introduction to Sanskrit class last year - it wasn't enough to master the language, but I get how the language works. I have a good collection of grammars and dictionaries etc.

My Uni education was in sciences, though I was a professional librarian for quite a while as well.

The FWBO gave me a good general education in Buddhism across a broad spectrum of the tradition. I have supplemented that by doing a lot of serious reading - I started by using Interlibrary Loan to get articles, but now I have a Cambridge University Library readers card.

So yes, largely but not entirely self-taught. I'm very much the dilettante amateur scholar. I love writing, but I'm aware that mostly I would not meet academic standards.

Regards
Jayarava

Jayarava,
i have been looking into getting a tattoo of a buddhist mantra, and that of varjasattva seems to fit me the best. i was wondering if you would happen to know where i could find a picture like the one you have posted with this blog, but in tibetan (uchen) script rather than in siddham. this would be very helpful and i would appreciate it greatly! thank you!
