You should go on reading "Britain and the Middle East" by Ellie Kaddourie.

Maybe there is no such thing like Palestinians, but surely they are not Arabs. Who are the Arabs ? Inhabitants of the Arab Peninsula or people speaking Arabic. Well what is Arabic ? The Standard Arabic of journals, the Quranic Arabic etc.


In fact, I tell, there are not Arabs, there are Arabs on the Peninsula, and arabized peoples, but the people e.g. Iraq (Kaddourrie is referring to this country) where arabized by the Brits.

Just show me the Arab of Morrocco who has relatives in Tunis, Algeria, Egypt and Yemen. All these countries using the same script doesn't make them the same.

Arab identity or a Pan-Islamic identity is a modern phenomena. Just repeating what Golda Meir said is no argument, and she considered Eastern European Jews to be Palestinians, so wtf ?!
