DHS needs to go. If domestic law enforcement and the CIA and foreign espionage services need to coordinate, they should establish a coordination office. It should NOT be a cabinet level position. It should be a place where the agencies "hand off" investigations, or coordinate "joint" investigations into foreign-sourced and domestic-sourced crime. Period.

DHS-affiliated agencies should not be involved in providing "relief" after natural disasters either. I have seen what happened in NO when the DHS was in charge of "relief." It turned whole sections of NO into a concentration camp, except without the security.

DHS is and always has been creepy. Americans should not put up with a Gestapo or Staasi or whatever federal domestic police force. (Cannot keep 'em all straight).

Well, there was more than a little discussion about the necessity of the agency at the time of its creation. Supposed to be for "coordination" among agencies - not controlling the citizens.

I would argue we never needed it - not even for the "war on terror", when one could call it that.

Creepy, creepy, creepy.

We made a difference. I strongly believe it was only because of bloggers this got out to the front of the news media. Which of course, just puts an even larger target on the internet for the next go around.
There will be another DHS report but this time the wording will be less transparent--but the meaning will still be the same. Just because the report is withdrawn does not mean Janet has changed her mind about the "dangerous" groups out in America...like greying middle aged grandmas who pray the rosary out in front of murder mills.

I temporary retreat on the part of Napolitano. Watch for the same to return in a different form.
