Kids lie on Facebook all the time, apparently. Some kids say they are 99, some say that they are 2.

Being cute or trying to get away with something, I guess. It also may be something they do to keep e-predators at bay.

I would be tempted to lie about my age, too! :) But for different reasons. . .

Ha!

Hey, are you guys doing something fun for the anniversary?

Ro -- Daughter #2 made us a steak dinner while we were at the gym (she teaches a yoga class at one, I work out at another). Then we all sat around and watched Robin Hood Prince of Thieves. Seeing Morgan Freeman's role in a whole different light.

And the night's not quite over though we both work early tomorrow.

Your explanation is the one I most figured to be the case but again it will not help her in front of a judge if the brainwashing accusations are already flying.

Oh, I dunno - the Myspace and Facebook stuff is truly juvenalia.

It is like lying in your diary. And yes, girls lie in their diaries (don't ask - it's complicated).

I think a judge could see that, no?

I don't think it will impact whether or not someone can make an argument that she has been "brainwashed." Seems to go more to whether or not she is truthful.

But maybe it could. Anyone know her real birthday? Maybe they could just run out the clock.

For pity's sake - she is 17. Gotta be within shootin' distance of 18. Then all the arguments are moot. And maybe she can apply for a student visa.

Hope she has a halfway decent lawyer.

Sounds like a nice anniversary evening!

Midnight rider,

I do agree with you, this does not help Rifqa cause.

Alright,

What does this prove? I don't get it? What, that Rifqa is lying about her age on myspace? So what? Making anything of that is like taking wikipedia's word as fully documented, unbiased, scientific research. So what if she lied about her age while making her myspace account? Would this make her case weak?

Well, if the father's lawyer is going to pounce on something like this and the judge takes it into account then I am sorry but this case is a lost cause for her.

"We're sorry, we can't believe you, you lied on myspace." If that's the judge's response, well he/she needs to grow up!

I always assume a different name online for obvious reasons, are you or the judge or someone else going to start doubting my story based on that too? I don't care why she lied (if she actually did) on myspce. I am not going to accept that her life, or anyone else's for that matter, depends on myspace, an internet community where kids hang out!

Ro,

She just turned 17.

See Pam's latest post, she spent an hour talking to a close friend of Rifqa's. The girl was subject to regular physical violence from Mohammadaddy (smacked in the face for resisting being made to wear hijab). It speaks for Rifqa that despite that home atmosphere she has been able to excel in school and live at least a somewhat normal life outside the home. So she posted a wrong age on MySpace, big deal. Ayan Hirsi Ali lied to get into the Netherlands, is that supposed to negate the rest of her story or her accomplishments?

If Rifqa's friends are persuaded to testify on her behalf that will probably put them at risk from the local Muslim "community" even if they are non-Muslims. But this has to be confronted. If Rifqa loses it will be considered yet another victory over the kuffar and it will be used as a warning to other Muslim girls: Don't try to run, the kuffar will hand you right back to us.

MR: My favorite thing about RHPoT is watching Alan Rickman steal it lock, stock and barrel. "You! 10:45! Bring a friend!" Heh...

For what it's worth, MR, I am really familiar with girls and Myspace. Myspace has a policy of not letting on kids under 13, but there are so many ways around it. Also, not mentioned, and if you go over to Gellers page or JihadWatch, there are witnesses to the father's abuse of his daughter, including eye witnesses who have seen her bruised, and they were working for the school.
While on the surface it seems like it won't help her case, I don't think it will really hurt it, either, because Myspace and Facebook for young teens is about lying. If I'd believed one fraction of what the irksome middle child had written on her Myspace pages, I would have had her in the psychiatrists office because she would have been that disconnected to reality.
There are any number of reasons as to why she made up her age, but she did note that she is a Christian.
That much everyone can agree on.

All --

1) I stated at the start I was not familiar with the workings of Myspace or Facebook.

2) I am not stating she is lying about her story, though someone else may MAY try to make that link with the myspace (just a teen who wants to be older than she is, just wants to run away etc)(lawyers are such worms)(first thing we do, we kill all the lawyers -- Bill S.).

3) IF IF IF someone ELSE altered a photo of facebook page & shopped it to Atlas that would not help (see! look how they lie about us!), although I think Ro's original thoughts the more likely

4) If people are so concerned that a judge already sees this as more or less foregone, or is inclined to side with the father, than why would this NOT add to that coloered judgement?

5) before getting too righteous on me, Avenging Apostate, kindly remember that I first posted on this before you. I am on Rifqa's side here and do not want to see anything that may hurt her case. Thus my concern with something I am unfamiliar with.

6) I really hope I'm wrong about how a judge or lawyer would view this

7) the anniversary was great and yeah, I love the way Rickman steals the show.

Have a good day, all.

Yeah, she lied just to get an account. I think you only have to be 13 on MYSpace, but I could be wrong and it may 18. She may have lied just to keep shady dudes from bothering her. Most of my MYSpace friends are cats, and I was impressed at how old so many of them were, since 'my' profile is actually that of my kitty, Cookie, who was 20 when I set up the account. Turns out they were just bypassing regulations. I don't think this means anything.

Midnight Rider,

Your points:

3) Photoshop isn't the problem here. I have seen the myspace page. My fiance who used to use myspace says that Rifqa's page looks like she never used it. She made it in a hurry and never went back to it. Here's the link to her profile # 1: http://www.myspace.com/187632256
Same thing is true for the second picture that you posted. The profile link for that is: http://www.myspace.com/acsrvcwrre

Its quite possible someone else made those profiles instead of her but I don't see why since the date they were last accessed was long before this whole thing blew up! I am sticking with, "she lied about her age. So what!?"

5) I never said anything about you accusing Rifqa of anything. I was only under the assumption that someone else had raised that age thing as an issue already and that's what you were highlighting. I came to know about Rifqa through your blogpost. I don't know what you're reacting to. If its about my tone in the comment, well yeah, I am pissed but not at you, at the father's lawyer and the Islamic community that are spewing out taqiyya every other second and the MSM is buying it. The question about whether you or the judge would judge me differently because of my assumed name online was a rhetorical one. I could've worded it like, "since you or the judge won't make anything of my assumed name, the same way I wouldn't make anything of her lying on myspace."

I am just generally pissed the way everyone is bending over backwards to make Muslims happy. However, my intention wasn't at all to accuse you of anything of that sort. I have read your stuff. I know better. However, if my comment came across as offensive to you personally, well I am sorry but again, that wasn't my intention.

My apologies, Avenging Apostate. I did misread the intent of your comment as to be directed at me. Sorry about that. I do understand (and agree) with your position.

I had not seen the original page so I did not know if it was photoshopped or not. My concern is not whether Rifwqa was lying on her page but whether someone else less honorable would then use that aginst her (she lied about this why not that) which is exactly the kind of thing you say would piss you (and me) off.

Just a point to make about the attempt to smear Rifqa's name in the dirt over what you thought was probably a million dollar discovery! Sorry to burst your bubble.

Myspace.com back in 2007 if you were 16 years of age OR UNDER, AUTOMATICALLY made your profile private as a safety mechanism for being so young. The ONLY way to make your profile PUBLIC for everyone to see was to change your birth year to make you older than 16 years of age.

Therefore, any 16 year old or under who wanted EVERYONE to see their profile had to resort to changing their birth year to a year that reflected their age above the age of 16 so their profile could be public.

You have proven nothing here except your own bias! One exceptional thing about truth is that you can't catch an honest person in a lie.

Instead of commenting on a month dead post, anonymous, how about reading something more recent to find out where folks like Pastorius and I actually stand on the issue.

Charging me with bias against Rifqa or anyone involved in something like this?

Fuck you, asshole.

I thought it was plenty clear even in this post and the comment thread that MR wasn't trying to "smear Rifqa's name in the dirt".
