Grant Jones,

I'm curious as to what your opinion of the now deceased Ronald Reagan is. I think he was America's president, at the time Margret Thatcher was England's prime minister.

Two important corrections:

"The “lame duck” Conservative Prime Minister James Callaghan was reluctant to take a principled stand on any of the issues"

James Callaghan was a Labour Prime Minister.

"two months before she won the premiership in May (her party lost the election in 1990)"

There was no election in 1990. There was an election in 1992 which her party won with John Major as Prime Minister. The Conservatives lost the 1997 election to Tony Blair's Labour Party.
