Ok - this proves to me that you are ALWAYS thinking ahead! WOW! Thanksgiving pies? Fantastic! Love the shot with the kung fu pose! Too funny! - Sounds like a grand day out with your littles!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE that first photo of the fruit and your toes...great colors!
We picked berries this week as well. I would totally freeze cherries for Thanksgiving pie. We freeze all our fruit in the summer to use throughtout the winter for smoothies, muffins and pies.
I love being prepared! I wish we had fresh fruit up here...you're the 2nd person I know that has picked fresh this week...oh can I wish! I had to order mine from the internet...sad, I know...funny that you posted about this, I just had a dream last night that you moved out to a farm...does that mean I'm reading your blog too much???
Great pictures, even better that you did it as a family.
I am very guilty of thinking my menus out way ahead. I usually invite guests for thanksgiving months ahead too- & they always seem a little shocked.... I am a compulsive planner. My mom used to make cherry pies with tart cherries! We would pick & bottle them in the summer- they are the BEST! I haven't had one in years. I thought people stopped making them. I hope yours are wonderful. What a fun place to visit!
i love the country-i grew up in northern VA-and was just there at the beginning of june. i miss all that green. there is a berry farm out here that i want to go to, but the berries still need two more weeks before picking. love your pics.
I haven't made a tart cherry pie, but I would gladly taste some of the one you made if you need someone to sample it!
That IS what David & Mindy's is like!
That looks like a great day! I love your hat and SJ is too much with the kung fu moves. You and Jeff made three kids with amazing personalities! No boring kids in the Cutler bunch!
I especially like the picture at the end of the gator. Awesome.
That first photo is so beautiful! It really tells a story. I don't recall having a tart cherry pie, but I LOVE cherries, so I'm sure it's delicious! You do have the best of all worlds there, Krist.
I've never made or eaten a tart cherry pie (it doesn't sound good to me at all...I have issues with cooked fruit), nor have I thought about Thanksgiving desserts 5 months in advance.
I want to go berry picking too!

[Image]Hi Ho Cherrio!
The weather this week has been something out of a story book. Sunny, breezy and NOT miserably hot. Yesterday was the perfect day to take the kids to the farm and pick some fruit. [Image]We put the little gator in the back of the truck and headed out. I had to take this photo of AK who always has her hands busy making something. She is currently making bracelets for all the swim coaches in her swim team colors.[Image]Going out here to the farm seems to give us the best of both worlds, the suburban and city life with a little bit of country. The girls loved driving the gator out and around. We probably should have asked for permission first - but the resident farmer did not seem to mind.
[Image]The strawberry patch was pretty picked over and I feared this was all we would find [Image]but we got a fair amount to make some jam [Image] and for Sally Jane to sample in the field [Image]We then drove out to the Cherry trees. It seems like everyone that I admire around here picks tart cherries in the summer and freezes the for a Thanksgiving pie. [Image]So I thought this year I would do the same.[Image]The best ones were at top.
[Image]And even Caroline climbed the ladder to get some.[Image]We got enough for two Thanksgiving pies[Image]managed a family photo - notice Sally Jane's kung fu pose, this kid is cracking me up! [Image]Jeff again wins most prepared dad and had water on his back to share with the thirsty littles[Image] I even remembered to take a photo of me at the cherry trees. [Image]little family photo with the Apples on the farm
[Image]This winter they added all the names of the animals on the front of their homes. It was so simple and cool at the same time.
[Image]This is Elmo the new cow that the kids love to feed
[Image]There were three little pigs to watch run around, one of them was named Kermit, but I am not sure which one. [Image] And we even heard a great Cockadoodledoo from this part of the farm.
[Image]I told Jeff this is probably what it is like hanging in Dave and Mindy's back yard. Life seems to just slow down when we are out there and it was a great day for a day on the farm!
Have you ever made a tart cherry pie? Have you ever thought 5 months in advance about what you are going to make for Thanksgiving?

5 months ahead? are you kidding? I don't even know what I'm having for lunch today yet. :) Can we come sample the pie?
Beautiful shots. Looks like it was a great day for everyone. So jealous of the weather and the green. The comment about Dave & Mindy cracked me up!

You really do have the both of both worlds - small town swim team, big city sites, local berry farm. No kidding.
