Kristi, you truly are a trooper. I'm sorry that I wasn't much help when I called. The dress is already filled with lots of love from 2 friends sharing an experience in life together for one lucky little girl.
Oh, bytheway, I do know what horsehair is. When I was in the 6th grade, it was the "cool" item of clothing to have a full horsehair half slip under our dresses. Since we wore dresses to school, in my day, I sometimes had it on when playing on the monkey bars or dodge ball. Funny to remember now.mlgcr
This incident, which I'm calling The Sleeping Beauty Incident of 2006, is a perfect example of why we have hard times. If you hadn't struggled and felt frustration, you never would have called Anne B. to ask her questions, and she wouldn't have rushed over to help you, you might have given up on making the dress, you wouldn't have gotten to know her as well, or experienced that kind of service or felt this kind of gratitude. Hmmmm. I think there's a life lesson in this. I sure am glad you blogged about it.
What a great story. So glad that the dress worked out. There is nothing worse than not having enough and knowing there is no more available to buy. Can't wait to see the results of the dress. P.S. What is horsehair?

I'm happy to hear that your friend Anne was able to 'talk you down from the ledge'. Now Caroline will have a beautiful costume and you will have a great friend to lean on for the rest of your life. Maybe you should make one for yourself, because you truly are an amazing "fairy" yourself!
I would not even attempt making this costume unless I knew I had a sewing fairy waiting in the wings! You have big ambitions and I'm glad you could figure out a way to work it out. I would have been devastated to have bought all the supplies and cut out patterns, etc. and then not been able to finish it. Way to go!
Can you lend me Anne? I want to make Kaitlin a hooded cape for her Cinderella costume and am petrified! You are so lucky to have a friend who can help you (even if your friendship was formed as she helped you with your problem). I can't wait to see the finished product! It's going to be gorgeous, I have no doubt.

[Image]The Sewing Fairy tonight I have been working on the incredibly hard Sleeping Beauty costume. What was I thinking? Because I have this secret dream, which is no longer secret, to sew my daughters wedding gowns; I feel sewing costumes gives such great training for the crazy dream I have. This woman (Anne B.) who goes to church with me had heard I was making this costume and actually bought the pattern for me. She and I studied it on Sunday and she taught me what horsehair was, which I need 8 yards, who has ever heard of horsehair. What is so funny is when I was at Joann's to buy it, 2 employees told me "We don't have that" of course I was not going to trust the 16 year old girl who is butchering my fabric as she cuts it. So I went and found it myself.
Anyway, I had bought this fabric for the skirt that goes from light to dark thinking it would look so different. Well, I figured out tonight I didn't have enough and had bought the rest of the bolt so there was no going back to the store. I sat in basement tonight and cried. I then went upstairs and sat and the couch and cried to my husband. My husband then went on the internet and found a costume and got ready to buy it online. Then Anne called me to see how I was doing (I had left her a desperate message on the phone) she came right over helped me cut out every last piece, found a way to make the fabric work. She is having me come over once I am ready to put the invisible zipper in for me. She is truly the sewing fairy! It is 10:48pm and she just left. I can not begin to know how to thank her! She talked me off the cliff tonight for sure. I am amazed at her willingness to help me. I am unbelievably grateful tonight. As she left my home she loved seeing and touching all my ribbon. I was making special note of the ones she loved the most, because they will make a perfect thank you for her willingness to help. Service is such a good thing!
