So Emily's sister Rebecca is married to this amazing guy. He had to give a talk about keeping the Sabbath day holy to the boys in our ward and he talked about how the temple is a holy place and when you go there you leave the world behind. He said it made him stop and think about how the Sabbath day is also holy and that if he gives up the world to go to the temple, wouldn't it make sense that he should give up the world for Sunday as well. It was really very thought provoking. It seems so obvious, but for whatever reason I had never thought of it that way. We have made some strides, but.. still a long way to go. Just food for thought. By the way- I love the box idea.

We have a long way to go too Lara. I have such a hard time because we could absolutely do nothing on Sundays while growing up and we just dreaded that day. You've inspired me to do a box Kristi. AND I'm in awe of your Goodwill (gymboree clothes and kids crafts--amazing). The only thing I seem to find are puzzles with half the pieces missing and leisure suits! Oh yeah, and lots and lots of plastic flowers.
I've been thinking a lot about Sabbath observance lately. Until we had Kaitlin we had a pretty loose interpretation. Now that our child is watching, I'm much more conscious of the choices I make. I hope you post those quotes!
What a great idea! My kids also had that talk on Sunday. I ditto Amy and I personally have a long way to go on the Sabbath Day holy. My husband is the "saint" in our house when it comes to that stuff. Maybe it is because he was raised that way. I tend to be a slacker...
I haven't made a Sunday box because the kids do really well entertaining themselves by reading The Friend Magazine or just playing together. I like the idea of it though, and should really gather some fun stuff specifically for Sunday. We love Sundays around here so I'm glad the kids have good associations with it.

I love how small this world is! I just commented on Jill's blog site last night and came today to read yours. The first comment on your Monday post made me smile. I had just gotten off the phone with Rebecca when I started to read. Stu (Rebecca's husband) is an amazing guy. I loved reading about his talk. Our kids are pretty happy to play quietly--although I do like the idea of the Sunday box.
One more Sunday there? I can't believe it! Email me when you arrive in MD, maybe I can work it out to be there with the welcome wagon!

I had to get diapers for baby Brandon on Sunday. 5 year old Tyler told me "MY mom and dad DON't shop on Sunday." I told him about my ox being in the mire because the baby HAD to have diapers. We could drink water if the milk was gone, but he had to have diapers. He seemed to get it, but I could tell he would be checking it out with his parents on the way home. so, I run into Rite Aid on the way home from church and he says "so should be swing by McDonalds next, we have to have food too, right?" We did not, by the way, but I almost died laughing, a lecture from him one minute, and that the next...

[Image]Sunday box. A few weeks ago I wrote about our Sunday's. I had asked everyone what they do on Sunday's to make it special. Amie wrote about how they have a Sunday box that they only open on Sunday. What a brilliant idea. So I went to Target got a rubbermaid box and then went to Goodwill (my favorite store) and filled it with books, games, puzzles and crafts to do on Sunday. Today is our 2nd week doing it. The girls woke up and were so excited to open the box. We played with the clay that they didn't get to do last week. We also made toothbrush bracelets.
Our talks today at Chruch were about keeping the Sabathday holy. They were wonderful talks!! My friend Laura (who reads a lot of our blogs and who I keep pressuring to get one) gave the best talk I have ever heard about the purpose of Sunday. I wanted to ask her for a copy of it to post two of the quotes that she talked about, but didn't get a chance before I posted this. We only have one Sunday left in our ward. It makes me a little teary.
