There was nothing special about meeting her. It was just the the way it always is. It had been months since I had seen her yet did it really matter? Not really considering she was still shrunken in height and I the lampost making the odd picture perfect of two old friends meeting after a long, long time.

Infact, it's rather tough for me to explain to people that she is what would qualify as a "nappy buddy" considering that she lost the battle of heights easily, boringly, alarmingly and ruefully ever since we were in the second grade. So you know now it seems more like I'm the elder sister taking the kid out for a walk, but if only u'd pass by and get a hint of our conversations u'd know that my dear midget can utter some really long ( sensible?!) sentences. A closer glance, yes, just one glance will make you notice one more thing. That these must be old pals. ( assume we are sitting!)

You don't just laugh so unabashedly with just about anyone. You don't just exchange a glance and have an entire conversation with someone you met yesterday. You just don't take a sip from their coffee and decide to exchange it with your bitter gingery adventure just like that! You don't just continue a conversation that never even started. You don't observe the same stranger in funny cowboy hat and laugh simultaneously. Or, the gal in mini's feeling like summer amidst cold winter afternoon's.
You prolly do it, but you do it with certain people. A childhood friend? :)

The beauty, the joy, the peace of having a friend who goes right to the days when you were learning to spell words like encyclopedia , then reading them, then dumping them and then again getting nostalgic thinking about them when u found a copy lying hidden in your bookshelf.
The happiness of sharing your life with someone who has been around ever since you would cry at school to the times when you u break down when the burden of life gets impossible to carry.
Sharing the unbridled laughter from the times you played in doll houses to laughing unstoppably over the smallest ( and the biggest!!) of goof-up's. Here was one person who had not just seen it all, but been through it all. With you.

We sat at this coffeeshop discussing life 10 years ago and hence and there was a tranquility about it. You know the sort of certainty and meaning it brings into your life when you know that this one person was and always will always be around? ( even if difficult to spot from a higher angle!)
That this person is with you after seeing the best and the worst in you. There is a predictibility about the bond, from getting the same once-a-year-ritual-sentimental-b'day-cards to getting your leg pulled the rest of the days, that, however, whatever, this pal is going to be there.
Like the stars, present, even when hidden.
Like the air, unseen and even unfelt most of the time.
Like little grains of salt, small but making the food complete even with its meagre presence! :)
