"[A] national failure" and "an abdication of the most solemn obligation to provide for the common welfare." In a moment of bliss, I imagined that Congress was finally addressing the single most colossal failure of our government, from which all other failures inexorably emanate - our fraudulent privatized, debt-based monetary system.

But alas, they were merely referring to one of its many off-shoots, the disastrous government debacle before and after hurricane Katrina.The preface to the report [by House Republicans] states: "If 9/11 was a failure of imagination, then Katrina was a failure of initiative. It was a failure of leadership.What about the FAILURE to supply the MONEY needed to fix the LEVEES to begin with?
[The report goes on to recommend] a series of measures to prevent the repeat the errors [sic] of last August, including studies of state evacuation plans, the creation of a national database of shelter information, and making commercial airliners available to transport the evacuees.Again, no mention of the MONEY needed to ensure that something like this does NOT happen again, or the MONEY needed to build a new mass transit system connecting Mississippi and Louisiana with adjoining states.

But, where would we get all this money, you say? It's not like we can just print it.

Oh yeah? These bondbuyers beg to differ:[T]he one good thing about Treasury securities is that Uncle Sam won't default on them because the federal government can always print dollars to cover its bills. The same can't be said of foreign governments, which have sold tons of dollar-denominated securities at rates close to what Uncle Sam pays.What's good for the goose is good for the gander. We could use the MONEY the government prints to 'cover its bills' to fix a nation that's FALLING APART.

We don't need to co-ordinate with private airlines to gouge us in our time of need. We don't need more "studies" of band-aid "plans" and useless "databases." We're already up to our eyeballs in hearings and faulty intelligence.
The committee, chaired by Republican Representative Thomas Davis, held NINE hearings and considered 500,000 pages [!!!] of documents.

[And this] report is the first of THREE being undertaken, by the Senate, the House and the White House. [We must endure TWO more of these utterly useless sideshows.]And what did they conclude? In the 60-page summary of a 600-page report, they declared that "all the little pigs built houses of straw."

Meanwhile, at large is the pack of wolves that hold our country hostage, armed with our money supply.

Katrina's just the tip of the iceberg.
