This week's quandary is what to do about online sales tax collection. And, as usual, they're pondering the issue as if this was 1913 - not 2013. Do governments need revenue? Surely. This, however, is the time to innovate, not to rewrite ancient rules. The cost of administering sales tax collections at a state and local level is burdensome. Thousands of small businesses, thousands of tax rates... forget it. Senators love hearings. Why not talk to a few Governors, and come up with a new fangled revenue system.
