When i posted it, I posted it in good faith. I saw it on Facebook and thought the image was lovely so I tweeted it. All hell broke loose. It made some people happy so I guess it's not all bad. No offence was meant, I apologise if some people to any.

Right - but watching that video it looks like the "ring of fire" is an illustrative animation rather than real footage. Before it there are a few much more realistic looking sequences which are labeled as real - but this not labeled in any way. Has NASA bothered to comment on this?

You forgot to mention that the atmosphere of the earth is nowhere near thick enough to allow aurora to extend to this height.

Its not fake in technical terms the illustrator clearly states its a representation thus there was no deception to the viewer http://artlovelight.com/see-the-northern-lights-from-space/artist-representation/
