Regarding DSBS, why go all the way to a Lagrange point? Wouldn't geostationary orbit be sufficient? Also, regarding the lack of detection capability for such deep space objects, wouldn't the goal to be to pick it up at launch?

Putting a nuclear bomb in geostationary orbit would definitely violate Article IV of the Outer Space Treaty, which forbids such wepaons being put into earth orbit. Interestingly, a DSBS would not vilate the treaty....as it would not be in orbit around Earth (but co-orbital with Earth).
Also, you don't want nuclear devices in the geostationary belt: if something goes wrong and it says "Boom!", then it will damage many satellites, including your own.
