I am grateful to read an account that ridicules what the US and GCC are trying to do in Syria, but it isn't clear to me yet why everyone thinks Mr. Assad will inevitably be dethroned. Not that I am for him, but as far as I can see his followers are not neglible, he has *some* Sunni support and until and unless some outside power *does* intrude, why couldn't he go with the new constitution and stick around? His army can take the opposition so far, right? I think it's up to other countries whether they put a spoke in this "humanitarian" effort, or not. Is Russia, is China *really* going to really step up to the plate? They should, or we will see even more and worse carnage in Syria and much more liklihood of Iran being attacked in turn. Turning point, not depending on Syria, I think.

In fact the majority of Syrians want the current govt and its head: Assad..It does not see any value in these opposition groups, many of whom want to put in place govts that will theraten minorities such as the christians.

Am i for Assad? sure because most syrians are..Those who claim not to be for Assad are conditioned by the western media attacks on him.

He also hs the support of Hugo Chavez and the Venezuelan govt..shrewder observers than the combined media forces of the US and fortress europe
