Eh, I'm not sure where you got the idea that that's the prevailing "Myth" of Abe -- if anything I'd say the prevailing opinion is what you've described as the "Reality", but with the evaluation reversed. The vast majority of informed observers in the West realize that Abe wants to rearm Japan and turn it back into a self-standing regional power, but the key point is that many are perfectly happy that he's doing this. For my own part I tend to view him as a dangerous proto-fascist, but I don't think anyone is really presenting such a saccharine view of his actions as you're making out. Then again, I may just be giving too much credit to the American media.

(It's Yasukuni, not Yasakuni, btw!)
