Great blog and you have contributed some real gems to Asia Times.

The US empire games get tiresome after a while. The US war game drills with South Korea serve only to fuel the tension in the region.

In 2013, we cannot have borders covered with landmines, razor wire, guard towers and whole army divisions armed with enough firepower to wipe out whole cities. The Korean peninsula needs a permanent peace treaty. It's about time for the US and PRC to think about what's in the best interest for all Koreans (north and south) as opposed to their own geopolitical interests.

A peace treaty would call for the removal of US military forces from the ROK. Ending all economic sanctions against the DPRK. In return, the DPRK scraps the nuke program. The DPRK and ROK pursue a de-militarization approach with personnel and heavy weapons reductions. More state resources in the North and the South can then be freed up for economic development, social welfare, public education and quality of life. New routes are opened on the border for commerce and passenger traffic. Just think about regular meetings between families separated by 60 years of Cold War hostility.

Wishful and naive thinking on my part but Koreans deserve a peace treaty with long-lasting stability and closer ties between the North and South. But, of course, imperial powers have never demonstrated sensitivity to the interests of their client states. The US military-industrial/empire fetish won't allow it.
