If anything the Russians seem to look for areas where they can go against Bush, IMO right now China/Russia are more concerned with who is the next president than what Bush wants.

Iran in particular thinks they are in a can't lose situation, if the US bombs any of the installations in Iran it will give them the perfect excuse to pull out of the NTP and openly support any and all groups that are anti-US. They know the American public isn't interested in invading Iran and even if they did invade they would find a much more united opposition.

One of the chants from Khomeinis time was that the life of an Iranian was lower than that of a foreigners dog in reference to the fact that a foreigner could run over Iranians without having to face charges in Iran while an Iranian who ran over a foreigners dog could go to jail, this is back in the Shah's time but you can bet people haven't forgotten and I am sure they see the similarity with how Americans (and contractors) in Iraq treat the civilians.

As you correctly noted there is no way in heck any of this is going to stick.
