Oh wow, those are some of the ugliest haircut ever. I've seen people with skullets before (unfortunately), but I didn't know there was a name for this kind of haircut. I just thought their hairdresser must've had a bad day or something ;)

Frighteningly, up here mullets are trendy again with all these 'metrosexual' kids. Worst part is the addition of strange tints or highlights which are done in the 'splat it on and see how it looks' manner. Most end up looking like a seagull has relieved itself on them from a moderate height ;-)

It's like looking around you and seeing the members of Kajagoogoo staring back.

Yikes.

Oh, and the character you mentioned as Rab C. Nesbitt was actually 'The Baldy Man' from Naked Video, played by Gregor Fisher, who also played Rab C.

Started off as a comedy character and ended up doing Hamlet ads based on one of the sketches in the show where he tried to get a passport photo done.

May have been based on Archie McPherson, Scottish football commentator and presenter who had an incredible ginger combover and sheepskin car coat in the 70's / 80s. The wad of hair used to flap around wildly with alarming regularity when he was doing spots to camera on windy days. Hilarious !

Grant - bad dye job mullets on metrosexuals?! I think that means that "scenester-watching" is more entertaining in Scotland than it is here. Do they also wear too-tight pants and pink polo shirts with the collar flipped up 80's style?

Regarding bowl cuts, I had one when I was 6 years old that was extremely cute. There was a time and a place for every hairstyle! ...except maybe the mushroom (yikes).

I was wondering about the skullet! Eek! Hey 2 things...1/not everyone in the south likes the mullet (i know i know you were kidding with the generalization but i must defend us) and 2/is skillet an American word really?

Isn't skillet a kind of pan or something like that?

Blogger Molly said...

Wow. They were serious about not knowing what a skillet is? Funny. There are a few definitions:

1 - a frying pan
2 - a meal served in a small skillet (the ultimate breakfast skillet at Village Inn)
3 - "home skillet" - a weird way of referring to a good friend, as in "yo what up, home skillet?" (outdated, often used sarcastically)

A skullet is a mullet, but your bald on the top. So basically, bald, but have really long hair coming down ur back. That's a skullet.

Have just listened to the show, having been released this morning from the interrogation cell by the local police; they kept demanding to know if I was a mobster on the run from the UK - I was at a total loss to understand why... UNTIL I LISTENED TO THE SHOW... Grrrrr!!!!! ;-)

my mum once had her hair cut in a bob & when she asked my dad what he thought he said she looked 'like a mushroom'. She cried for some time...

I knew what a skillet was, but not a skullet...one of them looks tasty
