Cool first ever surround sound podcast.

Shame I can't seem to get it to work, only seemed to come through in stereo. Probably my speakers settings that are wrong.

BTW For those that use iTunes, iTunes 5 is now available for download. There is also a ipod software update. Since updating my ipod photo software it now has a proper podcast folder which divides the individual podcasts into sub-folders, and sorts the episodes into date order, you can even read the show notes. :)

The effect is mainly heard in the jingles, us speaking is mid-front and the tunes are mid-rear. Didn't get to preview the show properly on my surround sound speakers on my laptop, so the sound placement was exaggerated to emphase the effect more. All part of the experiment...

Just turned off the word verification on the comments board, it didn't seem to be working. Blogger problems?

By coincidence, the last episode of Diggnation featured elements of Dolby 5.1 in it's podcast. Completely different concept to what you're doing mind. Diggnations podcast sounded like stereo tomfoolery to me.

Checked out Diggnation's supposed podcast 5.1 demo...nah! Don't think so. Good stereo effect, yes, not 5.1 not on your nelly! You can't do 5.1 with only 2 speakers no matter how you fiddle it.
They did one presenter in one ear, and one in the other, which sounded better than both presenters right in the middle. Less flat. Might be something worth trying out guys? I think adding extra stereo depth to a podast would make it enriched.

On my iRiver H340 there is a whole set of settings for the sound, and two are WOW SRS and SRS (Sound Retrieval System), which provide programmable surround sound, and on that setting the jingles are coming over far better now, really impressive - I imagine that has to do with the new production technique - nice one!!!
