Rob, you are 100% correct. Cameo did the original version of "Word Up". The version playing was, however, a cover by someone else whom I am not familiar with. I am, however, a BIG Cameo fan, and have several LPs (that's big 12" discs of black vinyl, for you young persons reading) going back in the 1970s. They are one funky group.

I've been expat for 20 years and the word "mashup" is not one I recognise - is it the same as "cover version"? Linguistically I am beginning to feel my age...!!! :-(

mashup = a track of music in which two or more tracks have been put together, digitally, in the hopes that the whole sounds better than the individual tracks.
Think of individual tracks as breat and meat-based matter, and a mashup is a musical sandwich.

If you like your music remixed and mashed up, then have a look at People Like Us :
http://www.peoplelikeus.org/dnload.htm
It's more audio-collage than mashup, but some of the tracks are really, really wonderful...
Sammy Davis Jr. was not blind... neither is Ray Parker Jr. Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles are the blind black entertainers, but I don't think either of them tap danced. At least not in public.
Savion Glover and Gregory Hines are/were tap dancers. Both black. Neither blind.
Looks like the job market for blind black tap dancers is wide open.

Great show you guys and nice list ross. My favourite mashup (it wasn't on this list) is "now I wont take your freedon". DJ earworm is a genius.
a top forum to join if you are like me and obsessed/love mash ups and boots is get your bootleg on - http://www.gybo.co.uk/. Be sure to comment if you do download anything. The guys and girls there are awesome! :D
Just had Citylink deliver mine too, glad its my day off otherwise its a bit of a drive to the depot. Shame that ecommerce sites don't allow you to pick which company to use for delivery as that is a real gripe of mine when van drivers wont drop off next door or use any sort of common sense. Bazza, next time delivery address for work - we need to know how cool the helicopter is! I'm amazed how quick this came over, plus the great funky orange box it comes in too! As for the Airzooka - major major fun, highly recommended.
Oh - just remembered it was Gun who did the cover version of Word Up.
I was going to get it deliver to work but I'm going on a business trip to Southampton, Wednesday and Thursday, and didn't want it delivered at work when I wasn't there. Someone might unpack it and put in some fake instructions. ;)
My best option with my helicopter might be to just let city link return it to firebox after 5 days, as I don't think I'll get a chance to go collect it. Then I'll have to convince firefox to send by royal mail instead and probably won't get until the middle of next week.
I knew there was a reason I usually always use ebay.
Looks like my helicopter arrived this morning, but as I'm away from home (I'm using my laptop through wifi at the moment) until tomorrow evening, I won't get a chance to try it until then.
really enjoyed this..am looking for a partiular mashup i really want to hear- Joy Division's Love Will Tear Us Apart and Captain and Tennille's Love Will Keep Us Together. Anyone have it/ seen it??

Rob, John,
Love the podcasts but the sound quality on the Mashup podcast was poor, if you do more music top 10's can you check the levels.
Thanks and my 1st list is on its way to you tonight.

Browse on over. I think they have or had a podcast, I checked it out once.
Website clearly not designed for 'sighties' :-).

Never tried mashups before, but some of these were strangely compelling. I must check some of these out when I get some spare time.
Loved the Ghostbusters 'find' with S Davis Jr ;-)

Finally got around to listening to this one after watching the free Cannonball Run DVD that was with the Sun (Starring the non-blind Sammy Davis Jr.)
For clarity - Sammy Davis Jr. actually had a glass eye.
You should try and do a top 10 people with glass eyes... I dried up after Sammy Davis Jr and Columbo though.
