I just finished S3 (literally, as in just moments ago), having been spoiled on Stringer's death shortly after starting the season. I didn't, however, know how or why or by whom he's killed.

I totally agree that it heightened my enjoyment of the season. Yes, I was deprived of the "oh, shit!" moment, which can only happen once. But watching most of the season and knowing what Stringer's fate would be, I was paying much closer attention to his every action and interaction, trying to pinpoint the key mistakes that would lead to his ruin. Even though his scenes have always been among the show's most compelling to this point (Idris Elba just commands a fucking screen), they were even one more notch above the rest in S3 for me, given those added layers to consider.
