When you say vitamin C, do you mean sodium ascorbate, L-Ascorbic acid or will any ascorbate work with Caffenol? I also note that some Caffenol formulae don't use ascorbic acid. Can you let me know what are the properties of the different Caffenol recipes? I mainly shoot landscape and sidelit portraits. Can you give me your recommendations for this? Thank you. Hi Ian,

Vit-C is always ascorbic acid. For ascorbate you have to adjust the pH, you're on your own.

Recipes: http://caffenol.blogspot.de/2010/08/recipes.html

C-C-M for slow to medium fast films < = ISO 100, C-C-H for fast films 400 ISO and more. These recipes give enhanced film speed of 1 or 2 stops without very long development times.

Maybe the (rs) = reduced soda variant C-C-M (rs) or C-C-H (rs) is best for you. Expose with boxspeed and reduce soda from 54 g/l to 40 g/l. 12 - 15 minutes at 20 °C and regular agitation as a starting point.

Is there any benefit in using pure caffeine crystals, rather than coffee?
Has anyone tried combining caffeine with conventional developing agents (for example, Metol, PPD etc?) Ian Rivlin, Queensland, Australia.

Hi Ian, caffeine doesn't develop at all. You can even use decaffeinated coffee with success, as shown in this post:
